'The Queen Of Neon - Spirit Of Tokyo', by Dan Kitchener on Aug 4, 2015 9:51:06 GMT 1,
'The Queen Of Neon - spirit of Tokyo' - So I finally managed to finish my epic scale wall in Bristol ( Church Road, East Street ) after what seemed like everything was against me, weather, technical issue with the scissor lift, and not to mention the intense and overwhelming pain everyday from a massive gum infection! Anyway, i had to push on, as this wall I knew would be something special and I needed to do the best I could! So here it is, not the best photograph, will post some better pics at a later date, without the lift in shot and sunnier conditions!.
I had a lot of interest about my techniques in painting from local people, who were astonished I just went up and painted it. It's all freehand spray paint, no projections or stencils, or grids, just one man and some cans and an A4 reference print out! I love this way of working as it allows me to adapt as I paint and add things that weren't originally planned and adapt as things develop within the details of the mural, it means i can literally change it all at the wall! It does take some effort when sketching the face freehand and meant I had to keep coming down from the lift and checking for proportions, but I feel that this type of wall isn't just about the final result, it's abut a journey getting there, it's all abut the craft and I like to create every part of it, from the initial imagery reference, through to the final painting...it's all part of the final image, i don't like cutting corners. ( stencil pun )
Massive thanks to UPFEST for their help and the spot, and also to all the lovely people of Bristol for coming and chatting all day and to the lovely lady who lived down the road and brought us delicious coffee, toast and an amazing home made curry!! smile emoticon It made it such a great paint, one to remember, I do love Bristol!

'The Queen Of Neon - Spirit Of Tokyo', by Star&Garter on Aug 4, 2015 11:02:59 GMT 1, Looks great, one of the few murals I have yet to photo from Upfest as I didn't know where it was. I thought your last wall in Bristol was big but this is huge. Congrats.
