I’ve recently had the pleasure of having some input into getting a portrait print of Jean Michelle Basquiat produced so wanted to put details up here.

Face to Face is a sequential series of 5 portraits, on one aluminium print, by artist/curator Geoff Dunlop. The size of the print is 114x20cm, printed directly onto aluminium. Geoff filmed/interviewed and photographed Basquiat in the 80’s - footage featured in the Basquiat exhibition at The Barbican last year. Pics of the print below.

The print will be an edition of 50, signed and numbered on the reverse. The first 20 prints are £425 plus P&P, the edition price increases thereafter.

Geoff Dunlop is an artist curator and writer. He makes exhibitions and shows work in Bath, Bristol and London, and occasionally in Europe, North America and Asia. Before establishing himself in the visual arts, Geoff travelled the world as an award winning filmmaker and photographer. He met Basquiat in the mid 1980s and included him in a series of films he made on contemporary art, for Channel 4 and international broadcast. Just a few years later, moved by the early yet painfully predictable death, Geoff made another film as a tribute, Shooting Star.
Collectors who purchase JEAN-MICHEL FACE TO FACE in its edition as a print on aluminium will receive a personal account of this back story, written and signed by Geoff.

Most likely fake

One of the tell-tale signs of fake Basquiats is the fact that they always have the crown and are always signed with his full name for some reason.

I count two crowns on this one and his name is written huge on the back, which Basquiat almost never did.

They also spend way too much time 'proving' that it's real, yet there is almost no information about the work itself?

Also: why would you sell an original JMB on Catawiki? Doesnt make sense

(edit: just now noticed it's actually 4 crowns lol)

To much effort and time and focus put to make this look like a Basquiat tells its clearly a fake.

Looks like a fake to me. It just doesn't look right. And as Emile said earlier, there's no way you would sell an original Basquiat on Catawiki - not unless you were a complete idiot.

100% counterfeit , composition too contrived for a Basquiat, imagery & text do not belong together in this faux work .
