Just called the YSP and the shop to sell merchandise closes at 8pm tonight. Just for heads up people coming from London who are concerned they will not have a chance to buy anything.

This morning at the Kaws early morning meet up. Pleased he was signing things again at the #instameet

The instameet this morning was good. Hooked blog was there. About 50 people getting things signed for instameet. The actual talk is tonight 6pm till 9pm

Yesterday was an excellent day out at the YSP.
I inadvertently ended up at the VIP bash by mistake. I think it was invite only, but promptly bumped into some acquaintances and was warmly accommodated by the YSP staff. Oddly enough I didn’t question why there was a coach to whisk me off to the venue when I arrived at Wakefield train station.

Most of the work in the indoor gallery has been seen before by Kaws fans . New and interesting, were the five huge new canvases which lined one of the walls. It would have been nice to get close up and see them instead of being kept some distance back. That said, the line work as ever is impressive and given that the works must be built up layer by layer, the smoothness of the canvases is also impressive.

The Kaws outdoor sculptures dominate their space and their sheer size is mesmerising. Sculpture fans in general who have not been before will be impressed by the range of works from Moore, Hepworth, Ai WeiWei, Gormley … Particularly apt in its setting is the LED sculpture by Julian Opie – The Galloping Horse. I missed it but there is apparently a Sol Le Witt “structure” out there. The grounds are vast (500 acres) so patience coupled with orienteering skills will prove useful. Just walking around the grounds you will probably acknowledge the huge cost that is required for the upkeep of what is essentially a huge (and still free), open air gallery.

I hope everyone enjoys the talk but for those that cannot make it and are interested, I understand it will be filmed ...

Had a great day yesterday wander around the park. The place is huge and don't let the mud put you off going. Aside from Kaws, the permanent collection of sculptures were amazing and worth exploring. The Kaws sculptures were very impressive too and it was a rare chance to see so many at a time. Not sure how well they interact with each other though; probably need a second look to decide that.

The gallery was a slight let down as it seemed a bit of an after thought and maybe a bit rushed? Still worth seeing, as again there aren't that many chances to see such a large amount of work in one room.

The artist's talk was interesting and the curator did her best to encourage Kaws to open up about his work, but it seemed he wasn't that comfortable publicly discussing his art. Great to see a few familiar faces and particularly Daniel3886, who very kindly dropped us off in Wakefield. All in all a great visit to the YSP!

Absolutely! It's on until June ffs. I'm waiting for some nice spring weather and casually take train up there with my better half. Nice and easy...and actually enjoy it.
