Nick Smith ๐ฌ๐ง Pixelated Art โข Colour Swatches โข New Print, by Schrรถdinger's Chat on Mar 19, 2015 6:14:18 GMT 1, I really like this print and actually emailed Nick during his show to see if it was being made into a print as I couldn't afford the OG.
I would like to get one but they are definitely on the steep side, you could get some great prints by very established artists for Less (if your quick enough at the drop!).

Bit pricey for this I think Do keep in mind unveiling is twice the edition size, and comes with the "laz tax" already figured in...
That was my point really regarding CH - a very trendy artist, larger format print, AND Laz tax and it still only added up to ยฃ250 retail.

Nick Smith ๐ฌ๐ง Pixelated Art โข Colour Swatches โข New Print, by Hubble Bubble on Mar 19, 2015 10:41:58 GMT 1, My feeling is that the work is terrific as original pieces but the style doesn't translate to prints. As I said at the time of the showโฆ it's a bit like seeing a magic act in person - where you wonder at the marvel of the performance and the cleverness of the smoke and mirrors - compared with seeing a movie about magic - where you think 'but that's all done by special effects, so I'm not really seeing the true ingenuity of the piece'.
But it's different and I like the way the words on the pantone chips add another layer to the visual appreciation, meaning the works have 'two lives'โฆ one from afar as a mosaic and one from much closer as one inspects the individual pantone chips.

It really works. The Splash was one of my favourite images and am glad he's made a print version.

Not an insult, but seeing as you have the talent to be able to use these colours to reproduce images, would it not be better served turning something into an artwork, rather than decoding a recognised art image?
You have skills, why not turn something into art, rather than just interprete art into you oeuvre.

I am quite autistic anyway, hence my fondness of Eine, Beejoir/Hirst spots and Mondrian.

I think his work is extremely creative. He takes apart a picture, in a mechanical and very constrained way, yet your eye still pieces it together to see the original painting.
I see the same type of work as Invaders Rubik series with the added element of the named Pantone chips adding to the message and the power of the work.
However, as said by many, this does not work as a print for me, only as an OG.

My Marilyn hangs proudly on the wall.
Does anyone know roughly what the originals go for?

If he wanted to look a bit more original he could have worked with images that haven't been reworked 100 million times before, and don't try to jump on the Banksy train with releasing the Girl with a pearl earring.

As others have said, I don't think they're much different to Invader prints being reproductions of tiles, or Rubics Cubes... if anything, the little bits of text under the Pantone tabs makes these more interesting/original.
