Nick Smith 🇬🇧 Pixelated Art • Colour Swatches • New Print, by snoozy on Oct 18, 2019 17:24:00 GMT 1, Only difference is hand applied gold leaf, but yeah, normally would be 10 or so with maybe a silver 20 but no, 33 gold. Seems value is related to ability to locate/supply v demand

It was £100 more than the blue.

PURGATORY
3rd - 8th Dec
This December, I'm delighted to present 'PURGATORY'; a week long exhibition of new original works in conjunction with Rhodes Contemporary Art at this years CONTEXT during Art Miami, 3rd - 8th December
VIP Artist Preview: Tuesday 3rd December Exhibition Dates: 3rd - 8th December, 2019
“Virtue has a veil, vice a mask.”
"When planning this show for Art Miami, a few things came to mind. White trousers... obviously, Miami vice and a cavalier nonchalance regarding certain aspects of morality.
I discovered that Christians believe in two varieties of vice… those that come from the physical organism as instincts, which can become perverse, like lust, gluttony or greed, and those that come from false idolatry in the spiritual realm…the worst of these being idolatry of the self.
Excerpts from Dante’s Purgatory are woven through colourful works depicting popular covetable consumables, creating symbolic representations of the seven sins. Dante explores possible penance for our earthly suffering leading to spiritual growth. The results of these pairings offer a humorous, nostalgic and subversive opportunity to question our choices, our history and our future.
Intrigued by the disjunctions discovered when exploring how educated consumers turn a blind eye for their vice, I present a collection of images to entice. This show is a shiny, sticky, glossy exploration of our societies attitude and approach to our excess, addictions and desires.."

Nick Smith 🇬🇧 Pixelated Art • Colour Swatches • New Print, by Deleted on Nov 27, 2019 7:00:14 GMT 1, Not my favourites from him. Seven deadly sins, Dante, 80s/90s nostalgia - all just seems a bit first base. There's not much of a thought process between gluttony and a doughnut, or wrath and a bullet. Apple for Pride is maybe the only one with a bit of thought behind it.
I like his takes on classic paintings best because there's something interesting in pixelating intricate images celebrated for their detail. How much can you simplify an image and still accurately represent it? He's boiling masterworks down to just some colours but still making them recognisable. There's a question about how much we care about the artistic skill and how much we just focus on the image as a whole. If you're pixelating a peach emoji or a Zelda rupee, what's the point? They're already pixels.
The fact the Nike one is priced higher than anything else suggests he's thinking about what will sell above all else. The fact it's the Back to the Future shoe feels extra cynical. Hypebeast bait.
Unusual that the Simpsons one has no text.
Interested to hear thoughts of people who like them.
