Nick Smith π¬π§ Pixelated Art β’ Colour Swatches β’ New Print, by mrizzle on Nov 10, 2020 22:18:09 GMT 1, Just seen a close up of this on Rhodes Insta.. kinda put me off..
Of the glazing? Why did that put you off out of interest? I thought it looked great.
Iβm not an unbiased party as I love Nickβs work and Iβll very much be endeavouring to add this to my collection as Iβve said. Iβm not sure why this particular print seems so divisive.

It's not the glazing, I just think the chips needed to be smaller or the print bigger with more chips..

Nick Smith π¬π§ Pixelated Art β’ Colour Swatches β’ New Print, by Deleted on Nov 11, 2020 12:37:45 GMT 1, Anybody mind explaining to me what the appeal is with this guy? Whenever I see his work it just reminds me of a test print from a colour printer. I also find his work unimaginative and samey. Marilyn -> check Haring Dog -> check These have all been done before. The best thing I liked were the HP and Ketchup bottles but they're only good to put up in the kitchen. I like the play on how much information you actually need to identify a painting. I prefer the ones where you can't fully tell what it is if you're too close. The Son of Man pieces did it best, I think, reducing the number of 'pixels' until the image was completely abstract, but still identifiable. And aesthetically, they're just quite pleasing.
The text can add something. The Haring dog, for example, has text of Haring talking about how he found his style. Quite like the pixelated dog with text about Haring's ideas coming into focus. Can't say I always get what the text is for, though. Some make no sense to me.
Don't think all of it's good. The Purgatory show was crap, with an incredibly boring interpretation of the seven deadly sins.
We have seen all these images used before, yes, but are there many artists discussed on this site who haven't done some sort of play on Warhol/Haring/Basquiat? The thing is whether you use them in a way that puts a spin on them.

goose, I feel that (for me) thereβs a lot to enjoy with his work and I feel that thereβs some real complexity to it.
I love the way that an image can become semi-abstract as it becomes pixelated through the use of the colour chips yet the mind can easily make associations/interpret them into a less abstract image. I enjoy the interchange between you as a viewer and the labelling/words beneath the colour chips too. Thereβs a lot to enjoy with it and I find myself looking at Nickβs work for far longer than a more βconventionalβ image.

Nick Smith π¬π§ Pixelated Art β’ Colour Swatches β’ New Print, by mrizzle on Nov 11, 2020 19:48:25 GMT 1, Out of interest, how much is MFM charging to frame this? I have a few he has done but then switched to a local guy who has just retired. Want to get this out of the tube ASAP and into a frame.
Missed this before now and sure you probably have an answer now but I paid Β£400 with museum glass. Quoted price for UV glass was Β£285.
I am just waiting it to get back and will share some pics of the result when it arrives.

Nick Smith π¬π§ Pixelated Art β’ Colour Swatches β’ New Print, by mlwells04 on Nov 17, 2020 0:21:15 GMT 1, Funny to see how some people are already showing ownership of the print via art collectorz. How many have gone in pre-sale, 98? Looks like another waste of time and effort. Funny because they specifically told me there weren't any presales. I know galleries always have presales for the high end clients but why bother saying you're not going to do it

I had to look up what art collectorz was but is that really reliable? Surely just anyone can visit there and say they own a piece whether they do or not? Iβm inclined to treat it all with a pinch of salt and skepticism.

Itβs also possible they are referring to the version sold at the show recently?
