The six-year-old kid of a friend of mine always laughs at the only joke I consistently remember ("What's brown and sticky?").
I've repeated the joke on several occasions, even on the same day, and each time the kid laughs like he's hearing it for the first time. It's a phenomenon I put down to his youth (and maybe a kind, pitying willingness to indulge on his part) โ as opposed to possible mental or memory issues.
He is certainly great company, because he makes me feel so much more interesting and entertaining than I really am. The main downside is that I quickly get used to communicating on this level. It then comes as a shock when I have to speak with other people whose expectations are higher.
Not sure why this thread made me think of that story.
