Donald Trump, by Dr Plip on Oct 27, 2016 11:25:25 GMT 1, Charities, Brexit and now Trump.
If Benefit Cheats and Refugees come up next, I'll have completed my Daily Mail bingo card.
Edit: No wait, I still need Corbyn.

Donald Trump, by misterx on Oct 29, 2016 0:41:01 GMT 1, “Donald Trump came to the Detroit Economic Club and stood there in front of the Ford Motor executives and said, ‘If you close these factories as you’re planning to do in Detroit and build them in Mexico, I’m going to put a 35 percent tariff on those cars when you send them back. And nobody’s gonna buy them.’ It was an amazing thing to see. No politician – Republican or Democrat – had ever said anything like that to these executives. And it was music to the ears of people in Michigan and Ohio and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, the Brexit states,”
“Whether Trump means it or not is kind of irrelevant because he’s saying the things to people who are hurting. And it’s why every beaten-down, nameless, forgotten working stiff who used to be part of what was called the middle class loves Trump.
“He is the human Molotov cocktail that they’ve been waiting for. The human hand grenade that they can legally throw into the system that stole their lives from them.
“And on November 8th, Election Day – although they’ve lost their jobs, although they’ve been foreclosed on by the bank, next came the divorce and now the wife and kids are gone, the car has been repo’d, they haven’t had a real vacation in years, they’re stuck with the s–tty Obamacare Bronze plan where you can’t even get a f—ing Percocet – they’ve essentially lost everything they had.
“Except one thing. The one thing that doesn’t cost them a cent and is guaranteed to them by the American Constitution: the right to vote.”
“They might be penniless. They might be homeless. They might be f—ed over and f—ed up. It doesn’t matter. Because it’s equalized on that day. A millionaire has the same number of votes as the person without a job – one. And there’s more of a former middle class than there are in the millionaire class.
“So on November 8th, the dispossessed will walk into the voting booth, be handed a ballot, close the curtain and take that lever, or felt pen, or touch screen and put a big f—ing X in the box by the name of the man who has threatened to upend and overturn the very system that has ruined their lives. Donald J. Trump.
“They see that the elites, who ruined their lives, hate Trump. Corporate America hates Trump. Wall Street hates Trump. The career politicians hate Trump. The media hate Trump – after they loved him and created him and now hate him. Thank you, media. The enemy of my enemy is who I’m voting for on November 8th.
“Yes, on November 8th, you – Joe Blow, Steve Blow, Bob Blow, Bill Blow, Billy Bob Blow, all the Blows – get to go and blow up the whole G-d damn system because it’s your right.
“Trump’s election is going to be the biggest ‘F— you’ ever recorded in human history.
Michael Moore in Trumpland, laying out why he believes voters, particularly in the Midwest, will vote Trump.
I think he makes some very valid reasons as to why Trump, regardless of the polls( we all know the accuracy of polling of late....) stands a bigger chance than I think most give credit for...

It surprises me that you say that. I have always enjoyed Michael Moore's films and found them quite compelling. What makes you say that his credibility is so poor?

Donald Trump, by Deleted on Oct 29, 2016 3:20:53 GMT 1, Coach Oh, I enjoy his films as well. I also appreciate and genuinely align with his liberal agenda for the most part but I enjoy his films purely from an entertainment perspective. I don't see him with the credibility of a true documentarian. He uses rhetoric that is largely rooted in alarm based conjecture and often sarcasm (This is my parallel to Trump). He is self described political activist representative of the far left and that is what his films do a good job of representing. Granted there is an unfortunate need for this counterbalance of information to exist today as there are a large number of people who don't bother looking deeper into what see / hear in the news. Moore does a good job of sparking conversation and getting folks to ask a few more questions.
There was an interesting study done based around commonly shared principles of the documentarian in relation to subjects, “Do no harm” and “Protect the vulnerable,” and, in relation to viewers, “Honor the viewer’s trust.”
Filmmakers observed these principles with widely shared limitations. In relation to subjects, they often did not feel obliged to protect subjects who they believed had themselves done harm or who had independent access to media, such as celebrities or corporate executives with their own public relations arms. In relation to viewers, they often justified the manipulation of individual facts, sequences, and meanings of images, if it meant telling a story more effectively and helped viewers grasp the main, and overall truthful, themes of a story.
One example is how Moore chooses to behave towards vulnerable people. Watch how Moore goes after Charlton Heston while he is suffering / dying from Alzheimer's during the filming of "Bowling for Columbine " Regardless of Heston and his politics (I am not an NRA supporter) Moore's choice here was ghastly and inexcusable in my opinion. At the very least unethical for a documentary filmmaker. This is also a bit of a personal point for me as I have witnessed what this disease does to someone.
When you watch a Michael Moore film through that lens (pardon the pun) they feel a little different to me.
That said I really try and stay away from political discussions but do enjoy talking about film after a few glasses of bourbon.

Donald Trump, by Coach on Oct 29, 2016 11:02:29 GMT 1, Thank you @augustg. Rest assured I wasn't trying to start a political discussion about Moore or score political points, so to speak. I was genuinely interested in your view of Moore, as I have felt an affinity with your opinions in the past. Thank you for the eloquent explaination. I totally get your point.

Donald Trump, by cornholio on Nov 7, 2016 4:07:55 GMT 1, This is all I'll say here. But if years ago someone told me in 2016 that one of the two parties would choose a candidate that is an outsider populist who eschewed money in politics and wanted to break the system. While the other party picked a mainstream "safe" candidate that was pushed on them by the elites in the party. I would have bet $10,000 it would have been democrats to pick the outsider. Boy would I have been wrong.
Yes, I know Trump has said and done some very ugly and despicable things. He sometimes acts like a childish asshole. But for every negative in Trump there are negatives in Hillary. Dirty backroom dealings, pay to play, two-faced, act above the law, hawkish. She's the polar opposite of Sanders. However, on the surface she knows how to smile and work a camera etc. so they tell us she's the better choice. But to me she's a dangerous politician you can't trust that embodies the worst of politics and will continue the status quo.
Now I'm not a "Trump supporter" per se (I agree with less than half of his policy positions) but I am saying he is one of the most punk rock, f##k the establishment candidates ever to be on the ballot. And I prefer someone - warts and all - that NOBODY in the establishment wants.
But ideally I'd prefer to have no president.
Maybe in 4 years maybe we'll have a better choice?
Yeah, who the hell am I trying to kid, we'll never have a good choice.
Oh and I better not hear one peep out of the left about the 99% vs 1% if Hillary wins.
This is all I'll say here.

I don't understand why people think they are getting something different with Trump? People who are siding with trump forget that he is what the establishment represents. He has thrived and made billions under the establishment working the way it does by shrewd business that took advantage of & cost their tax payers. Yet while he was raking in a fortune he found ways of not contributing to the country unlike the rest of society. I imagine if Hilary had this kind of background people would be all over it but when Trump does it its just accepted like a naughty child who you dont expect any better from. He is a deplorable human who will take advantage of and step on those weaker and less able than him. I cant see how somebody with this character can lead a country for the benefit of the people rather than himself. Oh and thats not even taking into account his sexist fascist drivel.

He is a deplorable human who will take advantage of and step on those weaker and less able than him. I cant see how somebody with this character can lead a country for the benefit of the people rather than himself. Oh and thats not even taking into account his sexist fascist drivel. Not quite. It was easy to get caught up in the caricatures about Trump, so many on the left missed this - and it was much more evident in the primaries - but he has blasted dark money (untraceable donations by ultra-rich donors) in politics and blasted Super PACs - at one point he requested a superpac that was helping him to shut down - this back when his nomination was far from secured! Meanwhile Hillary didn't utter a peep about that stuff in the primaries - Bernie of course did. She did give it some lip service after being nominated - to appease Bernie voters I suppose. Ironic considering she was taking billions from huge donors at the same time. On the other hand Trump took no money from big donors in the primaries and has gotten and spent a fraction of what Hillary has now. None of this is what you'd expect from a super rich guy who you say "represents the establishment." But sure I know what you mean though, his exploitation of the tax system doesn't make me happy - he does get a lot of s##t for it - but he didn't write the tax code - politicians (many democrats too) financed by ultra rich donors wrote it. He's also blasted globalism and trade deals and talked about tariffs - something that would negatively impact his business. He's proposed taxes on the rich and wall st. Now - sure, it might very well be all trickery and bullcrap. But he is (or at least was in the primaries) as populist as you could get on the right. And I find a it to be a more interesting case there than voting for a status quo candidate who has accepted billions from Wall St.
But yeah sure obviously he has said and done some "deplorable" things but Hillary is just as deplorable in ways that aren't as obvious but I find even more despicable. Disgusting misogynistic talk/behavior versus giving favors to huge donors and taking billions from Wall St. - to me that is more dangerous - just not as offensive - at least not on the surface. This is the reason she isn't trouncing him in the polls ... like you might have expected her too.
And fascism, really? That's nonsense and fear mongering. Many people on the right feared a "fascist" obama - total nonsense. Just like the fascist claims against Trump. You think he's going to declare himself king and get the army to do his bidding. It's absurd. At worst you could call him a populist/nationalist. Further, aside from the disgusting fire bombing of a black church practically all of the violence that has taken place this election cycle has been done by liberals or provoked by them. Don't think once conservative protestors went and assaulted people at DNC rallies but very many times left wing protestors harassed and assaulted people trying to attend GOP rallies. That is intimidation of the worst kind and it is exactly the same kind of thing that fascists used to do.
I'm not a conservative but in the beginning I found Trump intriguing. Since then he has proven himself to yes be a prat and has walked back some of the things that mad him compelling. But I have also long had a problem with the nature of our political system and nominating Hillary for me was the last straw between me and the DNC. I've always voted Democrat and occasionally third party but my growing disdain for the DNC and the people who voted for her has allowed me to remove myself from caring one iota about either side. And I have for the first time ever been able to clearly see both sides and how the actions and words of those on the left have been just as despicable as that on the right. Now OK, I may get some slight satisfaction if Trump wins - in the the f##k you establishment and their lackeys kind of way. But really I have zero passion for either side. I give not one f##k about either political party here. No one is going to be a real winner here. But the sad thing is some voters will think they've won tomorrow and will rejoice and taunt the other side. It's been turned into a big game for most people.

Donald Trump, by Pawel on Nov 9, 2016 7:06:43 GMT 1, With income inequality increasing lots of people feel betrayed by the system. Why thay think they will be saved by a billionaire who is proud of not paying the taxes, I don't know.

Donald Trump, by Lroy on Nov 9, 2016 7:57:59 GMT 1, Not such a prat now........ still a prat, all felt in the trap ! Remember Brexit, Arabian springs etc... Everybody were happy and singing in the streets ! Why still Humanity renunced to art sciences and progress to come in medieval monds : wars, each his own, racism, etc... Poutine/Trap , sorry Poutine/Trump what a match ! This world is a ring so ! Media ( and politics and money ) are making elected people and are responsible of all this crap. People have popcorn and TV in their minds... he is not a president of the USA for me, just a t**t. No respect. I like another America as Bukowski, Velvet, Kerouac, Ed Bunker, Scorsese, indie and alternative arts and music not mass feed. Resistance !
