New Pose Print "Dude", by rjf76 on Jan 1, 2016 23:20:21 GMT 1, Mine too then probably. I'll just pull the 'art' card and get it down to 5% tax Original pieces are supposed to be exempt in UK, so 0%. Paid out on more than a few before realising that. So annoying
Really? I'll have to check form again - didn't think it was 0%! Cheers

What is the process we have to go through to get the charges down? Do these screen prints count as original pieces? If they're signed/numbered, they count. You can find the form on hmrc website or pm me with email address and I'll send you form/details...

New Pose Print "Dude", by onetwothree on Jan 4, 2016 21:36:18 GMT 1, Mines same, they said it hasn't been given a UK tracking number yet, but arrived in Heathrow on 18th, usually that happens straight away.... I think they've stored and will register when no Xmas backlog, improve delivery times or something.

New Pose Print "Dude", by damo on Jan 16, 2016 22:33:28 GMT 1, Mine is finally with Parcelforce who now want £76 for Vat and clearing fees?
Apologies for the newbie question but I am sure I saw something on here over Xmas where there was a view that this didn't apply if it was one off art (and a signed limited edition would qualify). Is that the case re VAT or was that specific to import Duty (which doesn't seem to have been applied)? If it is exempt of VAT how do you go about claiming it if Parcelforce have already paid it to HMRC?
I feel bad as I keep asking questions on here about dull things like auction payments, and now VAT rules, but I'm learning all the time and am hugely grateful for the info, both directly and via numerous wider debates/discussions/bun fights/disputes!

Section 3.4 and 11 I think.

3.4 Imported works of art, antiques and collectors’ items Certain works of art, antiques and collectors’ items are entitled to a reduced valuation at importation. This is reached by calculating a value for duty using the appropriate duty method, adding any additional costs (see paragraph 3.1) and multiplying the total by 25%. Applying the 20% rate to this value gives an effective VAT rate of 5%.
VAT is already 7% or something like that in LA/NY so means it's already paid at 5% most of the time when importing to UK, that's my understanding but might be wrong

New Pose Print "Dude", by onetwothree on Jan 16, 2016 23:22:05 GMT 1, I think the definition of works of art art (section11)applies to Pose screen prints? Defo the HPMS he does. If so the VAT should only be 5% not 20% but still have some handling fees which are about £10
'original engravings, prints and lithographs, being impressions produced in limited numbers directly in black and white or in colour of one or several plates executed entirely by hand by the artist, irrespective of the process or of the material employed by him, but not including any mechanical or photomechanical process (Tariff code 9702 00 00)'

I think FЯ knew something on this The basics are parcelforce are twats. There is no movement, you have to pay and put in a claim form to get it back after. This claim form has to be accompanied by all receipts and proof it is a screen print along with any paperwork from the tube and customs charge.
if with dhl or fedex etc you can argue it before you pay and they correct it. I hate parcelforce and always where possible pay that little extra for a courier to avoid this shit.
