Hey, don't argue about the politics of an art piece designed to create conversation and possible political action because its art!!

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Deleted on Jan 26, 2016 10:53:15 GMT 1, I don't get why B didn't make the piece bigger if he did indeed bring it pre-painted on the plywood, fresh from his studio? His framing and placement is usually effortlessly spot on, but this one looks almost apologetic in size, yet it's the one time he had the chance to go large? bigger just means the auction porters have more of a struggle, poor chaps.
pre painted?, no.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Deleted on Jan 26, 2016 12:21:00 GMT 1, Dubai needs more of this...... Probably not easy to criticise some governments like Dubai, Saudi etc spray on walls without getting ones hands chopped off. What a good thing we have equality freedom of speech and democracy in the west and Europe.
The role of PR is to promote a positive image. Thats my take on Jo Brooks tweeting the location and image.
There looks like a big difference with Banksy art today compared to in the past.
A stencil of an out of context caracter famous for being illustrated for a famous French novel which if read would open peoples minds more than looking at a stencil of an out of context caracter on a bit of plywood.
Not sure about a stencil in Dubai.
Maybe a stencil of Alexandra Mezher.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Lroy on Jan 26, 2016 12:36:57 GMT 1, OK, finally managed to figure out how to post these. I thought you've all seen the pictures of the Banksy itself I'll show you the people who were there. The guys in 4th photo were very active, on their phones, whispering, rushing back and forth to two men in suits who clearly did not want to be seen on camera. Enjoy. this man on the right was at dsimaland.. You guys members on here?

What's "out of context" about it? Symbol of the French Revolution, outside the French Embassy, being Tear Gassed. QR code with video to make it super clear. What's not to understand?
It's only there to start a debate, not solve the problems on it's own.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Deleted on Jan 26, 2016 12:49:52 GMT 1, So in reality, what's the point of this stencil? To protest, and to raise awareness of what's going on. I would assume that the whole world and their dog knew about the Calais jungle a long time before this Banksy promotion.
So what is going on HappyShopper with the migrants in Calais and the tear gas? Whats the real story and truth about this?
Banksy just linked to a short video which does not show the whole picture.
I doubt the police in France are interested in firing teargas at people for no reason and wasting time and money. They do it when provoked.

Didn't the French police deny that they'd used tear gas in the camp? The video shows they did. The situation needs sorting out, whoever is to blame.

Didn't the French police deny that they'd used tear gas in the camp? The video shows they did. The situation needs sorting out, whoever is to blame. So basically a point scoring propaganda video, made by goading the police and tring to get them to fire a cannister into the jungle near the entrance of the jungle and use that short footage for propganda purposes against the police.
Video footage of migrants attacking trucks throwing rocks and breaking windscreens. Breaking into truck and looting their content exists too.
Calais residents have homes broken into cars vandalised, teenage girls mugged for their mobile phones too.
I know that French police can be real thugs and can be very racist too including towards the Brits in France.
If the police are attacking peaceful migrants for no reason then they need to be taken to task and lose their job. The migrants do have advisers and legal support.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Dr Plip on Jan 26, 2016 13:10:00 GMT 1, People move on very quickly. It's easy to become apathetic to news events if they drag on for longer than a week. Banksy's last work in Palestine, was never on its own going to create or provide a practical solution to the crisis there. It's more about saying 'Hey! Look over here!'. And I think it's fair to say this Les Miserables graffiti will do they same. It won't bring a tear to everyone's eye, but it might get people to just look away from the latest Netflix thing or whatever for 5 minutes. Just keep things in the public's attention.
He's doing fucking something. Which is more than the majority of us.

nb. Is it really Tuesday?, it's about time he did something else is'nt it?, lazy get.

It would have been better just left in place for all to see and tagged as the days go by or covered by some strong perspex.
