Satellite Owls, by Deleted on Jan 26, 2016 12:57:39 GMT 1, I have noticed that a lot of art made by male artists is taken seriously. Whereas if the same art wa smade by a woman, it would be considred not very good.
If Banksy stencilled an owls face on a satellite dish there would be people posting about how relevenat and great this art is that it's about covert surveillance because owls can see in the dark and they hid ein trees ready to pounce on the little mouse and we are the mice and owls are big brother and Banksy is great and we want a print because owls are so clever. Women are smarter than men in general and men like stuff like stencilled rats on road signs cos thats what men like.

But people don't seem as keen when the image is of a beautiful man.
Anyway, I couldn't give a hoot hoo painted the owls, they're pretty.

Satellite Owls, by Hairbland on Jan 26, 2016 13:04:42 GMT 1, Not sure if I like this new game 'How to derail and destroy'... None of us have to like everything and of course have an opinion but more and more threads (recently) seem to descend into outright p**s-taking. Pretty disrespectful imo. More positivity people?! Blame the gallery, not us. It didn't belong here.

Satellite Owls, by Deleted on Jan 26, 2016 13:18:19 GMT 1, Anything that is done by hand freehand and not some photo shopped photographic image of a celebrity made into a stencil done by assistants works for me. There are lots of threads here about gallery shows and artists who do not paint on outside walls. Anyway it seems the only qualification required is to reproduce some studio art on an outside wall legally. Post it on instagram or other place.

Satellite Owls, by Hairbland on Jan 26, 2016 16:19:30 GMT 1, I think it belongs here, so there. Bit snippy, eh?
Not to go all Wiki on you and Ploppi, although this definition can be found ANYWHERE:
Urban art (from Latin urbanus, itself from urbs ["city"]) is a style of art that relates to cities and city life often done by artists who live in or have a passion for city life. In that way urban art combines street art and graffiti and is often used to summarize all visual art forms arising in urban areas, being inspired by urban architecture or thematizing urban live style.
Because the urban arts are characterized by existing in the public space, they are often viewed as vandalism and destruction of private property. Even though sometimes this form of art leads to vandalism the creators do not see themselves as vandals.
Although urban art started at the neighbourhood level, where a lot of people of different cultures live together, it is an international art form with an unlimited number of uses nowadays. A lot urban artists are travelling from city to city and have social contacts all over the world.
The notion of 'Urban Art' developed from street art which is primarily concerned with graffiti culture. Urban art represents a broader cross section of artists that as well as covering traditional street artists working in formal gallery spaces also covers artists using more traditional media but with a subject matter that deals with contemporary urban culture and political issues.
These "Satellite Owls" don't meet any criteria to be considered Street Art or Urban Art. Quite simple.
Now let's all make up while listening to Lou Reed's "Satellite of Love". Such a great song. Urban Art?

Satellite Owls, by Coach on Jan 26, 2016 17:09:31 GMT 1, I'm happy to see any type of art posted on here. Doesn't mean I shall always like it. I and others post art which isn't street or urban on the artists you might not know thread. It would be a shame if that were limited to a particular genre. Maybe the work of this artist should have been posted in that thread too.

Satellite Owls, by randomname on Jan 26, 2016 17:10:20 GMT 1, I think it's fair to question whether the subject matter matches the audience.
The first thing I thought of were decorative plates some people collect and put on their walls. Just doesn't feel very urban to me. Putting it on a satellite dish doesn't move it any further in that direction in my opinion.
For me, it would feel more urban if there were an element of subversiveness or irony. Not sure if you can get there with an owl.
As a side note, if she does want to appeal to an urban art audience, I'd think it's more productive to give honest feedback than to say nothing and buy nothing.

Satellite Owls, by thisisanton on Jan 26, 2016 17:50:41 GMT 1, Nice paintings, but where in the world can you hang that inside your house? The roof seems the perfect place. If she wants to make it urban, paste some comic book collages on it. We all know how that turned out. I kid, I kid.
