Kaws • Man’s Best Friend • 10 Print Set, by Winter on Jul 8, 2020 9:50:12 GMT 1, Quite easy to notice by the comments people make who is going for these. For the record I’m not but if I was I think they would work best in multiples, maybe three in a row. For the price of 3 I’d rather spend the money on other art. For that reason I’m out.

Kaws • Man’s Best Friend • 10 Print Set, by met on Jul 8, 2020 10:54:04 GMT 1, I think it’s deplorable he’s doing this. Balls deep in a pandemic and impending global recession. He tries to caveat making $8m across 800 or so prints by releasing 20 charity prints. Even Hirst done an open edition for charity. There will be people out of a job using their kids college funds to buy this... But those people would be morons
Depending on the given situation, there will be some scope for debate, won't there?
We have the option, for example, of choosing the age at which most toddlers are able to distinguish between right and wrong. Or later periods, like the minimum ages of consent, for enlistment in the military, to be eligible to vote, or to purchase alcohol.
But the general principle all of us can probably agree upon is that there is a point at which sane, functioning individuals must take responsibility for their own decisions and actions. Or at least not shift the blame for their foolishness onto others.
__________
If unemployed people really will use their kids' college funds to buy an $8,000 print, the suggestion that KAWS should be blamed for this is rather puzzling.
Sounds like there's a demand being made by some collectors (or just an expectation on their part) that works of art be sold for less than what the artist himself judges to be market value.
To my eyes as a mere observer, this comes across as stampy-feet entitlement. It isn't the most attractive look.

Kaws • Man’s Best Friend • 10 Print Set, by Hairbland on Jul 8, 2020 11:13:27 GMT 1, It’s the pricing now that’s shafted across the board. 8k for a print, and it’s like there doing us a favour. I would rather have the bun fight and not get one at £500. Prints used to be for the collectors who couldn’t afford originals. Now in a lot of cases collectors can’t afford the prints. He’s a wanker. True, but if you were into KAWS 10-15 years ago you’d have 10 KAWS prints for $8,000. Getting into anything WAY LATE is always going to be more expensive.

Kaws • Man’s Best Friend • 10 Print Set, by Hairbland on Jul 8, 2020 11:22:53 GMT 1, Surprised by the level of hate for the man for being a successful artist. All whilst liking Banksy ffs I don't think they're comparable. Banksy makes artworks with messages and then sells his work under market value. Is that what B is doing, with his celebrity waiting list and private commissions? Asking for a friend.

In this way he do a real low price policy and he didn’t became a big Status Symbol Artist. So if you need an artist that made real low price policy don’t look at Banksy or less then ever Kaws. The proposal of Kaws 8K$ is really high price… he’ll make money not the collectors.

Signed and dated 'KAWS..13' on the reverse acrylic on canvas diameter 152.4 cm. (60 in.) Painted in 2013.
Estimate HK$3,000,000 - 5,000,000 €346,000-577,000 $385,000-641,000
sold for HK$3,990,000

I don't get how artists estimate their prints nowadays.
I mean its probably a 1M$ sold painting. Since its a 700 ed. It should sell for less than 2K$ no?

If you can’t afford it - like me - spend time looking for the next Kaws. Much more fun. And cheaper.

I don’t agree. Never believe the hype.
Try selling a Kaws toy or print and you will get a reality check. Yes certain big names get great resell prices but the rest are lucky to make a quarter of the price.

Banksquiat prints were £500 to lottery winners, not sure how many. A lot were sold to private collectors and VIP's for £20k to £25k. My framer had two Banksquiat's to frame prior to mine and they were private collectors who paid the non lottery prices.

Yeah for sure, but as I say... that isnt normal and I was a sale ends winner at £500. Its common knowledge what he usually charges for prints 👍. Congrats on the score 🙌🙌
