Could we report this to the police? After reading all the relevant posts, I trust we already have enough evidence (pictures and dates) to show to the police this Invaderโs CCTV piece is stolen off the street of London. Therefore this should not be re-sold and made profit of, especially not at publicly known(?) auction house.
With this thief being arrested, others will be threatened and the auction houses will be more cautious, the circulation of the fakes and stolen in the market will be much lesser. This would not only protect our beloved artists but also our community and even ourselves in a longer run.
Just a wild thought, am I being too naive? ๐

It was first pointed out by jig5aw with supporting photographic evidence. That fake still ended up going for $57,600. Rather unfortunate for the buyer. __________ Since concrete examples are always helpful, let's try another case study, this time selected from works in Julien's current Street and Urban Art Auction (#3201) on 2 May 2018: 1. Here's one piece being sold as a Keith Haring: www.julienslive.com/m/lot-details/index/catalog/258/lot/101801/ Is there any provenance information offered, details about chain of title? No, not in the lot description. None whatsoever. It seems buyers just have to take Julien's word for it that the piece was "Executed by Keith Haring on a New York City subway sign from the Freeman Street station in the Bronx."2. So what does a potential buyer do if they're a bit nervous about having zero proof of a work's authenticity, and zero details about its history? Well, perhaps no such information is actually required. Yes, the piece could easily have been faked. And yes, it's being sold for thousands of dollars. But maybe blind faith is sufficient to make up for the evidence shortfall. Blind faith in the professionalism, honesty and integrity of the auction house. That's certainly one option. I see plenty of reasons to be cautious when buying from them, but what about selling or using results as valuation guide? Selling? Who knows but is it really worth the risk. And as for a valuation guide since they are mostly selling fakes and stuff stolen from the street how exactly is that information useful anyway? There are plenty of decent auction houses out there that will give you better information in terms of guide to secondary market value why bother with someone who has question marks over them? |

In the past I tried to speak with them to educate them on fake works they listed (as many others here tried as well I believe) to only hear them use various excuses to not remove the fake works from the auction. Now again, in the promotional email teaser alone (I didn't event bother clicking the full catalog after that) I see fake Keith Harings, fake Basquiats, fake Invader works...
Anyone knows how come they dont have their auction license removed and criminal charges filed already after operating like this for years?

"He should know what he buy, we are a selling platform, not an expertise center" This would be the answer of minor auction houses and all digital auction platforms.

On other more expensive lots they pulled the old get out of jail card

There are many online auction houses selling fake art that is "attributed to" or in "in the manner of" famous artists.
Don't get conned. As appealing as these may be... they are fakes and scams

I also contacted them for condition reports and they where prompt and gave a detailed condition report.
Invader on his website clearly states works removed from the street are not signed nor will be they be authenticated. Would prefer to still be able to enjoy them on the street. Soon people will be re-creating these works, going back to the original locations re-photo them being removed and sending them off to auction..... There is really no difference???
