Someone else pointed out that over the three 'rooms' there are twelve blank spaces, perfect for twelve releases over the twelve days of Xmas. Makes sense.

Don't think it is a piss take. The question was how can you beat oxford street as a location for the ghetto. A huge smile must have gleaned on some faces when Bethlehem was suggested. I'm fucked if i know how they're going to beat Bethlehem next year. ;D

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by bob1 on Dec 3, 2007 1:23:55 GMT 1, Keep things in perspective, this aint a piss take and as much as a lot of you love to shy away from the political aspect of Banksy's work, there is reason's for why it is in bethlehem and it aint to piss of the flippers!
Quote from the times online today:
Banksy said: “It would do good if more people came to see the situation here for themselves. If it is safe enough for a bunch of sissy artists then it’s safe enough for anyone.”

No, but the ghetto as a shop selling products to customers surely does?

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by bonesy on Dec 3, 2007 1:33:08 GMT 1, Tawfiq Salsaa and Banksy
'Jerusalem'
it's a perfect scale model of Jerusalem carved out of local olive wood by a wise old man entirely from memory. It took three years to complete and then Banksy turned up and stuck a bunch of miniature watch towers all over it. 'Collaboration' would be the nice way to put it, 'a flaming liberty' might be nearer the mark.

its there, its a shop, its open and its going to sell art, believe it or not London is not the only place with shops and people with cash. Bethlehem may be under occupation but people live there and as a result there are shops and products and people with different degrees of wealth. Not to mention the other side of the wall where there's quite a lot of cash to splash.
My advice get over there not just for art but to see the people and situation for yourself, having been there myself I can tell you its truly life changing.
Bob

I think the main idea is to create a base camp of artists to hit the most s**tty wall in current history and generally highlight how f**ked up we all are when we celebrate xmas and fail to remember the awful state of Bethlehem whilst we are doing it. Really love the idea. Lots of respect, thats what keeping it real means to me.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by adamdavis on Dec 3, 2007 1:44:06 GMT 1, I do agree with what people are saying, but in the end of the day although they are donating a piece of art to the 'local people' this is great PR for them and there going to make a fortune out of the prints, so really its exploiting the situation for personal gain. BOGUS -1 for POW.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by becksaboo on Dec 3, 2007 1:44:42 GMT 1, this is such a stroke of genius, sums up exactly what i love about pow. really inspirational and certainly makes the things we moan about on here (flippers) seem really pointless. i love them as they ignore all the rules and fears which stop most of us doing things and just say fuck it, why not? and for that i think it's a fantastic statement. i only wish i could afford to go.

Thanks for that, I wasn't trying to paint London as the centre of the earth. As someone on WK, the planning that has made this happen (and I'm pretty certain this is legit now) has been extremely significant.

What a joker!
Have you been there? Its no cave, probably much safer than hanging around the streets of Soho for two nights!
Granted the IDF aren't known for being the friendliest bunch of people, but I can assure you the locals of Bethlehem will welcome you with open arms, maybe you should open your mind
