Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by mcnuts on Dec 3, 2007 11:10:48 GMT 1, I dont have the cash to go, but i think it's absolutely bloody amazing they can pull this off. Sure the art is great but for those who go, I hope it brings some perspective and not just jet setting off to buy some swish art in a rather โcoolโ location. More important than any art for sale is the cash its sale will raise for charity and hopefully some heightened awareness to the issue of Israeli occupation in the west bank and the essentially apartheid conditions of the people who live there. Seems like banksy really is using his cash and "brand" to make a difference. I hope at least some of this perpsective is kept in any bunfight and or whinging (me included) about getting or not getting a print.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Neate Michael on Dec 3, 2007 11:46:31 GMT 1, What I am wondering is, will the art on sale in Bethlehem be sold at normal prices or will it be cheap to encourage the locals to buy it? I cannot see many locals being able to afford a Micallef or a Swoon original, not to mention a Banksy original...
But then again, if it was cheap, would it all just appear on ebay? I guess we won't know until it opens!
And like the Ghetto last year, will all prints be available at the shop as well? In which case it would be much easier (surely) to get the Banksy print at the shop, or does he have a huge local fanbase?
Either way, props to POW, props to Banksy, and I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by GB on Dec 3, 2007 11:48:51 GMT 1, so i have been looking on the site and also reading peoples reactions, i must say i love the fact that the ghetto has brought political and social issues to the forefront.
But a part of me feels a little confused, is banksy trying to become the bono of the art world? its an interesting thought...... at the moment i am pretty open minded, i guess music and art do sit together so why not make them highlight common causes. but i must say i personally hate bono's constant whining....
i dont know......

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by knox on Dec 3, 2007 11:50:18 GMT 1, I'm hugely tempted but the only thing that stops me is the release dates. I don't want to get there and find what I want is being released the day after.

I don't think Banksy's trying to be the Bono of the art world...Bono's an egomaniac...Banksy on the other hand never makes it about himself...he never proclaims to be a saviour. Also Banksy's work has always been politically influenced...it's not something new.

I think the point of going is for the experience and the original art... the prints are going to be released online in the usual way... they've not taken 1000s of prints to post from Bethlehem with them... prints are in the UK I'm sure

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by numusic on Dec 3, 2007 11:59:13 GMT 1, I do agree with what people are saying, but in the end of the day although they are donating a piece of art to the 'local people' this is great PR for them and there going to make a fortune out of the prints, so really its exploiting the situation for personal gain. BOGUS -1 for POW.
you first class c**t, f**k off.

this is very good opportunity to apologies for all of us who secretly or openly criticized POW/BANKSY during the year for not doing their jobs and leaving us wait etc etc ..
this kind of thing takes time and massive effort to organize and it makes me very happy that there are still people who really make the effort
I think it was MOTOR who once said here that when Bansky returns it will be with a BANG .. and this is a f**kING BIG BANG

Do you think the online shop page will be based around the POW basket and Protx etc!!
Any news on the duration of Santa's Ghetto, will we get 3 weeks of anticipation and frenzied online visual treats!!
