I'll have you know Murdoch's empire is populated by quite a few left-leaning pinkos...including a former member of the ALF and someone who used to go on solidarity missions to Chiapas. Mind the sweeping judgements. That's the sort of thing that gets you killed in the West Bank.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by rob on Dec 3, 2007 15:59:19 GMT 1, Thank you for those well wishes. I won't pretend that I don't have any fears about going to the west bank. However I would like to feel confident that no company would hold a show in an area that would put peoples safety on the line. (I may be wrong)
Quite why Bethlehem is beyond me. Obviously a PR stunt. Perhaps 2008 could be at the top of Ayers Rock...
As for the show itself I would be highly dissapointed if it was an auction. If it is to be an auction why not hold it in London? far more people would be able to view and bid therefore raising more money. Everybody would have the same opportunity to bid so I can't see the problem.
If the release dates for any prints are staggered I personally would be not best pleased either. I would imagine that the vast majority of POW's clients would be from the UK, so to expect people from your main target area / fan base to travel that distance only to be told sorry the Banksy prints haven't been released, please check back another day would be just plain wrong.
All bridges I will have to cross tommorow. Providing I don't get shot of course.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by gtf on Dec 3, 2007 16:06:13 GMT 1, There is something that everyone here seems to be forgetting/ignoring. Those who travel out will get to see the great stuff that the artists are doing on the walls. That alone makes the trip worthwhile in my opinion!
I wish everyone would stop focusing on the bloody prints and originals and look at the bigger picture. For fโs sake please remember where this art all started and is/should still be centered; and it is not what you want to buy/already have on your walls or in your portfolio.
Not forgetting they are trying to raise some cash for charity as well.

if you're going there in the hope of buying prints that will not be available anywhere else, then I'm 99% sure you'll be disappointed. All the prints will be sold online, there's no way they're going to take all the prints / tubes over there with them, and if they had them printed locally, there's no way they're going to bring back all the unsold ones to the UK. I think it'll be a proper art show with originals for sale ( alot of which will be local artists) & some screenprints, but all prints will also be sold online. Seriously, how many people will travel over there just to buy a screenprint... Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think you're being very naive.
I'm guessing the original works will be sold via a closed bid.

well said! anyone travelling to buy a screenprint might as well sit in comfort & F5 with everyone else.
if you're travelling there do some sighseeing & learn something about their plight over there & when you get back make sure you tell your friends how bad it is & that something needs to be done to help them

Well said.
I can't afford to go, but if I could it would be a great experience, I'd check out the work on the wall, look around the ghetto and as I'd be wealthy I'd stick a sealed bid on one or two of the originals.

Hear hear...it's about the art, stupid. Open appeal...those who go, pls post pix of the wall art you find on the board -- especially those from local artists. And your war stories...always a good read.

That's what they say, you get a voucher at the ghetto, pay and have it delivered at a later date.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by numusic on Dec 3, 2007 16:19:33 GMT 1, Thank you for those well wishes. I won't pretend that I don't have any fears about going to the west bank. However I would like to feel confident that no company would hold a show in an area that would put peoples safety on the line. (I may be wrong) Quite why Bethlehem is beyond me.
1) it's an auction 2) There will be no Banksy prints for sale* til Tuesday 3) No one cares if you're not "personally best pleased", or "disappointed", this show isn't about you. 4) The company aren't responsible for people getting shot by bored 18 year olds Israeli's in army uniforms. Nor are they responsible for the various muggings, knifing's and shootings in old London town. 5) If you do plan to make the trip, I'd seriously advise you leave the attitude at home, because a) it'll decrease your chances of getting shot b) it'll open up your mind to a world outside the little one you live in... maybe.
peace and love..and seasons greetings.
