Zedsy 🇬🇧 Street Art • New Print Release , by nikos76 on Dec 17, 2022 16:44:01 GMT 1, www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/23181224.residents-amazement-banksy-style-graffiti-appears-hoylake/
Residents' amazement as 'Banksy' style graffiti appears in Hoylake

RESIDENTS have shared their amazement after two pieces of ‘Bansky’ style artwork appeared at Hoylake beach.
The “subversive” artwork shows an image of a black and white ostrich with its head in the sand while a songbird perches on its back.
The second piece picates the silhouette of a young boy sitting in the sand, holding a mobile phone, sitting in front of a bucket and spade accompanied by a seagull.
The artwork was spotted by the RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station and on Trinity Road in Hoylake.
The artwork was spotted by the RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station (Image: Facebook) The mystery paint job has left locals scratching their heads on who could be the master behind the transgressive creations.
Since the artwork appeared, residents have taken to social media to share images of the graffiti and discuss who the Wirral Banksy could be.
One person said: “Sadly the ostrich and songbird pic shows exactly how I see humanity behaving in the face of climate catastrophe.”
A second person said: "In recent years Hoylake beach has attracted attention from nature lovers David Attenborough, Deborah Meaden, Carrie Johnson, and Chris Packham, could Banksy have joined them? The two pieces are certainly in his witty style."

A third user posted: “It’s an excellent bit of work, well executed, great placement pertinent to its message and funny as well as highlighting something tragic. Brilliant.”
Another person said: “I do love a bit of subversive art.”
The graffiti comes after a memorial bench needed repairs after a plaque branded “insensitive” by some locals was placed on Hoylake beach.
READ: Memorial bench to be repaired over 'insensitive' Hoylake beach plaque
The plaque that was placed on the bench reads: “In memory of Hoylake beach, from creation ‘til 2019, your sandy shores have been taken away but to get it back we will fight night and day.” It was spotted by local residents over the weekend and clearly makes reference to an ongoing row about how the beach should be managed.
Wirral Council said the bench was a paid-for memorial and it will now need to be repaired because of damage from the unauthorised plaque.
Hoylake beach has been a divisive issue for the town since the council stopped spraying weed killer on it in 2019. Vegetation has begun to grow on the beach with Natural England saying sand dunes are likely to develop.
Two groups have formed with completely different views on how the beach should look and be managed. One wants to see a section of the beach cleared of vegetation, another for it to develop into a natural habitat.
The beach is protected under a number of environmental regulations and rare plants have been found, meaning tight controls on managing the beach are needed.

Artist behind 'Banksy' artworks linked to 'toxic' beach row unmasked
The community has been split over the future of Hoylake beach since Wirral Council stopped clearing the sand in 2019 The artworks have prompted a lot of debate in the town (Image: Jane Turner)
Artworks originally thought to be by street artist Banksy have popped up in a town divided over a "toxic" beach row.
Two pieces of art have appeared in recent weeks starting debate in the Wirral town of Hoylake about whether the world-famous artist was getting involved in a debate over the beach's future.
The issue has split the town since Wirral Council stopped spraying weed killer on the beach and clearing it in 2019. The council is now developing two options on how to manage the beach in the future but some are still unhappy.
Both artworks are on the beachfront. One shows an ostrich with its head in the sand with a small bird singing on top. Another shows a small child on a phone next to a bucket and spade with a seagull on top.
On December 17, Zedsy, not Banksy, revealed they were behind the artwork in a video and series of posts on Instagram. Their artwork has appeared in the Tate Modern and the Louvre.
People in Hoylake, on both sides, have praised the art for being open to interpretation as well as drawing more attention to the town. Originally from Greater Manchester, Zedsy explained the meaning behind the artworks.
They said: “The artwork doesn’t really take a side. Normally I prefer not to sit on the fence. It’s much better getting off the fence and painting on it but in this case the future of the beach should be left to the local residents.
“The artwork hopefully just brings a bit more attention to the topic and highlights the debate. As with all art, the final interpretation should always be left to the viewer - unless it’s abstract art. I don’t think anybody knows what that stuff means.
“I’m glad to hear the artworks have come across as somewhat coherent. It’s a bit surprising as my work is usually painted as carelessly as possible.”
Although not from Merseyside, the artist said: “When I heard there was a debate raging in Merseyside that didn’t involve Liverpool or Everton, I had to see it for myself. The only issue you have is turning up to a beach and it looking more like a park. Some people might say that falls under false advertising.”
On whether we could expect more artworks in the future, Zedsy said this was unlikely, adding: “There isn’t really much else to contribute on my behalf plus the wall space is a bit limited around that area.”

Zedsy 🇬🇧 Street Art • New Print Release , by Slipped Crown on Dec 21, 2022 12:36:58 GMT 1, Ive just caught up on this & think its a very interesting debate. The graffiti by zedsy looks great.
What do you guys think? Should we let nature take it's course and let things develop naturally...
Or should the need for human leisure / ability to enjoy the outdoors and the mental health benefits take more importance?
