Kinda, yes.
Funny thing is I've done totally abstract sketches for many years in the margins of notebooks and on other things etc. I just never thought anyone other than myself would understand or appreciate them. To me, the Dr. Cachet piece is like a first step in that direction with it being a mix of representational, abstract and hand drawn. It's been a slow process but I think it's time for me to introduce something new. The pieces might get weirder as I go along.

ABOUT HASTENS
Hรคstens manufacture beds and mattresses by hand using natural materials like cotton, horse hair, wool and flax. Hรคstens retail stores also sell branded premium bedlinen, pillows, duvets and accessories. The company was founded by Pehr Adolf Janson in 1852 as a master saddler business and is still a family-owned company. David Janson shifted their focus in the early 1900s from making saddles to making beds. By 1952, a century after its foundation, they had become the official bedding supplier of Swedenโs royal court, a title they share with IKEA since 1984. The company continues to manufacture all beds in its factory in Sweden.

The exhibition has been pushed back to July 25-28 with the Opening Reception on July 25th from 6pm-8pm at 195 Chrystie St (South Gallery), NYC 10002. The name of the show is called STELLAR, so the art has to reflect that. See you there.

STELLAR is a story of getting back to the basics in order to move forward and rediscover who I am as a visual artist. To me, this meant using my life as the subject matter. Taking more time than usual to create each piece and being very deliberate with the composition. Painting with the brush rather than drawing with the brush. Scraping away layers of paint and collage materials thatโs been building up on each found wooden panel over the last ten plus years. Working with common house paints as my main choice of medium... and purposely limiting myself to using a small stock of paintbrushes I purchased a few years ago from a recently passed away friend. He found them while dumpster diving at a local art university. Although Iโm known for my mixed media screenprints, creatively I believe there are other levels to ascend to. Here I begin at STELLAR -Bobby Hill
