Blu ๐ฎ๐น Bologna Street Art โข Print Release โข Art For Sale, by sapi on Aug 13, 2024 1:07:47 GMT 1, Looking for a Rennes, Rennes UV, and Headquarters UV. Bump are you getting no offers or unhappy with the work offered or the prices?
Rennes was released in 2011 in an edition of 150 and is his best standard edition print in my opinion. i reluctantly sold mine a few years back for my full asking price ($15k) and haven't seen anything available since. (1) it functions like a large detailed sketch for one of Blu's most iconic murals;
(2) is has classic Blu OCD features (where a lot of little things - in this case manmade products like cars, trucks, monitors, a bed, guns, missiles (everything including the kitchen sink) and a dog - is combined into a giant robotic thing (examining and holding a blood red heart));
(3) it is politically engaged and open to political interpretation (e.g., the monster consumer society considering/on the verge of possibly crushing a heart); &
(4) it is beautiful/sublime, with countless objects lovingly rendered, and nice to live with (i mention this because some of Blu's works are painful to look at).
Rennes UV was released in 2012 in a varied edition of 25 and many of them were messy (too messy on the eyes and heart for me -- mine has clear eyes and heart).
i missed the release of Headquarters UV but believe it was over 10 years ago and also in a similar sized varied edition. One was on Artsy for ~ $45k but i don't know if it ever sold.
what is the best of these you've seen for sale at what pricing? adding transparency to your quest - like an offer - might help shake some loose (and/or demonstrate that these priceless works but a true master who released only a small fraction of the work of his peers are all locked down with collectors who are keeping them)

I sold my Rennes years ago (for not even close to 15k) The Headquarters on Artsy didnโt quote me anywhere close to $45,000 nor would I pay that but I was in talks with the seller at the time. I prefer the original also but I love some of the unique versions.

Blu ๐ฎ๐น Bologna Street Art โข Print Release โข Art For Sale, by Gucci Da Glacier on Aug 13, 2024 11:37:07 GMT 1, I know of a Rennes UV for sale for โฌ10000 right now but itโs not my favorite one. The Headquartes UV they were asking โฌ20000. I didnโt pay anything close to that for any of my Blu prints including my Demos UV but willing to discuss a price with anybody that actually has one of any of those pieces for sale.

Blu ๐ฎ๐น Bologna Street Art โข Print Release โข Art For Sale, by Gucci Da Glacier on Aug 13, 2024 14:09:47 GMT 1, Yes I donโt think they are realistic at all. Thatโs why I didnโt buy them but I am still on the hunt for a Rennes, Rennes UV, Headquarters UV, and any of the Ericailcane x Blu collabs. It was a Headquarters unique version they were asking โฌ20000 for though and people are free to ask whatever they want but I just am not willing to overpay like that. I would never have sold my Headquarters for 1700ยฃ though so thatโs unfortunate for the consigner lol

fwiw, i viewed those prices as optimistic given what i have seen of his market (but that is a hard nut to crack since the work comes up so infrequently and i have no idea of private sales), but also feel those prices are warranted/will be a great deal (given the limited number of Blu prints across all editions and comparing works available to his peers - my guess is most serious street art collectors have giant Blu holes in their collections and depending on when they got interested, may have no idea). i also treat such pricing as future predictions

fwiw, i view auctions as reflecting the current price for the particular auction (and think of it as a reference or floor). many prospective buyers don't participate in auctions at all, are not aware of the particular auction (or, like me, are out of the time zone to even follow the close). read through this thread and you'll find works that sold below what others would have paid but they failed to register or didn't anticipate the lack of competition. it might have sold for 2x or 5x or 10x in the right context (and the seller may not have been in a position to wait for a better price -- life sometimes forces fire sales but those don't reset all pricing). that particular print was outside of the edition but signed (i do not know how that impacts pricing but suspect some print folks want numbered edition).

Blu ๐ฎ๐น Bologna Street Art โข Print Release โข Art For Sale, by sapi on Sept 15, 2024 23:21:16 GMT 1,
Considering moving this rare Blu etching on, edition of just 3. A couple of auction houses interested, any idea what the estimate should be and/or private sale ? nice! i haven't seen anything since you asked about this in 2022 and my answer then is similar (the etchings should be more than the standard edition prints - although maybe on par with Rennes standard edition (i sold mine for $15k) - and less than the unique variant prints (asking price for those has been in the range of $20k-45k, though some have sold at auction for less and some less compelling examples of Rennes UV reportedly have asking prices around $10k). in other words, i think $10k-20k is reasonable for the etchings (not necessarily a fast sale).
i have another etching from the same LAZ show and have thought about selling it over the years (it just got bounced off the wall again), but cannot figure out how/where. i am a true believer in Blu given he is one of the OGs from when street art went 2.0 (as noted before here and Lazarides said as noted here), have a large collection of his work (and am protecting Money Shark), and yet his output, counting every print from every edition, is less than 2000 total
imho, auctions risk selling for well below what it might sell for at a gallery. selling through a gallery risks that it would have gone for more at auction and requires waiting for the right buyer, but i have not seen Blu's work blowing out auctions and the art market is currently pretty cold so the downside of auction risks seems higher than the upside. my current thinking is a gallery listing on Artsy might be the best option for Blu at the moment. i am going to cross post this on the Blu thread (which is active, and may get more comments).

Blu ๐ฎ๐น Bologna Street Art โข Print Release โข Art For Sale, by sapi on Nov 1, 2024 0:51:34 GMT 1, Blu exited the art market (galleries, selling directly through artsh.it) over 10 years ago (and likely will never sell anything into the art market again--the only work available is on the secondary market, and that is rare). I think Blu mentioned working as a cook in this video from back in the day (theinfluencers.org/en/video/blu/7)
Lazarides on Blu from 2018 A. As far as it is possible, Blu is the purest of the pure in terms of street artists. There is no commercial angle to what he does, he has a very political mindset, he is prolific and โ as far as I am concerned โ he is the real role model for what street artists should be. A. I think heโs so political and he has such a strong sense of who he is and what he wants to do, and I donโt think heโs motivated by money or fame at all: all he wants to do is paint in the streets and paint walls. And I think heโs stayed true to that for the last fifteen years. Lazarides on Banksy and Blu from 2018 Q. What do you think will remain of these two artists for future generations? A. I think Banksy will be considered one of the most famous โcommercialโ graffiti artists of all time. And I think Blu will be considered one of the purest graffiti artists of all time. Blu exited the art market (galleries, selling directly through artsh.it) over 10 years ago (and likely will never sell anything into the art market again--the only work available is on the secondary market, and that is rare). I think Blu mentioned working as a cook in this video from back in the day ( theinfluencers.org/en/video/blu/7) Lazarides on Blu from 2018 A. As far as it is possible, Blu is the purest of the pure in terms of street artists. Did you see the print pinned under the desk? do you know if it is a print or poster? is this a blu 's edition never released?

it looks like it was the cover image for the Influencers Festival in 2009. see theinfluencers.org/en/festival/2009 see also 0100101110101101.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/influencers-poster-2009.jpg *i haven't seen this IRL but am guessing based on the ones in the video that this was a printed poster
