Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by Schrödinger's Chat on Aug 2, 2018 21:27:06 GMT 1, The poster looks great framed up. It's a lovely Blu street piece and I like that the photo shows clearly that it's the side of a building, gives it some scale.

And how to best display the sketch book ? On top of my art books on a coffee table seems irresponsible with kids around !

The framing you have chosen for the Blu is not something I would have thought to choose for myself, but goodness me, it does work superbly. I doff my hat to you.

Yes, I got the special edition too. I had no idea that the poster would look so good framed though. Very impressed.

Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by pinfra on Aug 3, 2018 19:53:26 GMT 1, Back in 2008 I visited the POW headquarters in London. They had four Blu sketches for sale. One of these sketches was also published in the BLU 2004 – 2007 book. I asked for the price and was quoted £ 900 per sketch.
I passed and bought a Blu print instead...🙈😅
If u want I will buy for 900€ each! 😁

Unfortunately, by the time they contacted Blu, it was long gone. I don't know why he stopped selling his sketches like this. Maybe he just wants to hold on to them?

Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by sapi on Aug 6, 2018 19:45:35 GMT 1, Jonathan Levine had a nice selection of small Blu drawings back in 2008, at least some of which were made into giant murals, for $3800 is my memory (& unfortunately i passed on these, but it kept me looking until i found one of their best collectible works)
I don't know why he stopped selling his sketches like this. Maybe he just wants to hold on to them? Blu worked with a few galleries in the 2000s and then went on their own (selling directly through artsh.it with one release in 2010 and a smaller release in 2013). since then they have not sold work (or released any new editioned prints). my understanding is they opted out of the art market (finding capitalism of the art market and art collecting to be inconsistent with their messages and/or reason for making art). early street art was in opposition to advertising and outside of capitalism (more free-wheeling/always open/open to all) and Blu has held true to that spirit (as it would have been so easy for him to cash in - his small drawings are like printing money).
a gallery recently told me that Blu stopped being an artist and i think that is far from true. their best - most iconic/impactful work - is the giant murals (and stop-motion videos) and the recently published comprehensive book of murals demonstrates that they never stopped. they did opt out of the art market (so much that they only participated in this recent exhibition with work that was not for sale (all the other artists had many works for sale)). they also painted out all of their murals in Bologna to preempt developers from acquiring the physical buildings to get original Blu paintings (and earlier painted out murals in Germany to prevent them from being used by developers to charge more for gentrification).
which leaves collectors with a relatively small pool of collectible works. as noted earlier in this thread, there are less than 2000 prints (adding up every print across every print edition). not sure, but am guessing less than 100 original drawings. fwiw, i think of the drawings as the collectible elements of his murals (similar to how performance artists used to sell photos of their performances as collectible works).

Sapi, actually Blu ( and few collective in town that helped him) paint out all his mural in Bologna because of a StreetArt exhibition where few walls of ancient buildings were shown, and Blu answer was #nelgrigiodipintodiblu all grey everything!
Blu was very very active from 2000-2007 period, I’m sure 100% that he made much more than 100 drawings...

however, i have been following Blu since early 2000s and since that time i have seen less than 50 drawings for sale (in various gallery shows and via artsh.it, and not counting the Wooster sketchbook) and/or in private collections (via instagram and message boards), so my guess was <100 original works in the art market. i am in the US and was not paying close attention for much of this decade and understand that there may have been many more for sale or collected off line. if anyone has better intel, please share. i am curious if there are original drawings (sketches) for all the murals & prints (and if he is still making sketches for new work and keeping it).

PS: He also worked with a bunch of parasite jerks, like Angelo Milano at Studio Chromie - which can make one want to give up on collecting or selling art

Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by sapi on Sept 8, 2018 19:52:10 GMT 1, Artsy has two Blu prints available via Chiswick Auctions (headquarters and funeral). both look like they are damaged on the right side of the print (in the same manner - maybe they were stacked and got wet?) and are listed as signed in pencil "outside of the edition"
WTF? anyone have any insight into this? e.g., why don't they note/highlight the damage in the description? what is up with signed outside of the edition? where are these from (i find no provenance info)?

Hi there, If you’d like a full condition report on any piece just drop me a pm and I’ll be happy to send it on Monday. I’ll also confirm the provenance so you’re in possession of all the information you’ll need prior to bidding.

Headquarters is supposed to be fine and b. Funeral is supposed to have very minor creasing to the bottom that will frame out or press out; 2. they are from a former POW employee - signed by Blu (*) not sure how this fits into editioning -- e.g., how many were released outside of the edition? should we think of them like A/Ps? -- but there are so few Blu prints overall (as discussed here) that these additional few (from a source directly connected to the publisher) do not seem all that problematic to me
given current bids & estimates (£200–£300), this looks like reasonable opportunities for headquarters and funeral
Artsy has two Blu prints available via Chiswick Auctions ( headquarters and funeral). both look like they are damaged on the right side of the print (in the same manner - maybe they were stacked and got wet?) and are listed as signed in pencil "outside of the edition" WTF? anyone have any insight into this? e.g., why don't they note/highlight the damage in the description? what is up with signed outside of the edition? where are these from (i find no provenance info)? since i posted the above and now have more info, it makes sense to update: 1. issues evident in the photos are from sleeves holding the prints and do not reflect damage a. -- but there are so few Blu prints overall (as discussed here) that these additional few (from a source directly connected to the publisher) do not seem all that problematic to me given current bids & estimates (£200–£300), this looks like reasonable opportunities for headquarters and funeral

He could have already made his money and has enough for his travels. I doubt, when he was selling; not a lot of people were buying and the pricing level wasnt high. His demand and prices started peaking recently when the majority of people finally realized how crappy some of the other popular street artists were compared to him.

Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by gmidd on Sept 11, 2018 0:48:34 GMT 1, Bloody hell 1600 euros for a prints that sat unsold for years !! Wonder what a WWT is worth these days - for me that was always one of his better prints. Love the fact he's still on the streets as that's really where he work truly shines - was never really suited to a gallery.
To be fair, prices on that site are crazy high across the board. Doubt those will sell at those prices anytime soon. I don't know how sites like that sell anything. I do wish I bought that Monkey print when it was sitting on POW though.
