Swoon related news, by Feral Things on May 18, 2016 21:05:01 GMT 1, I just thought I'd give Pearly's Beauty Shop a quick bump as it's a good cause and only a few days away. This is Swoon's new 'Thalassa' print which will be available on the night and there's an online auction here. Shรฉpard Fairey will also be DJing on the night; I'm sure there's a good joke in there somewhere about his 'sampling' when DJing but it's been a long day already! Anyway, tickets are available here.

Swoon related news, by Feral Things on May 30, 2016 12:05:25 GMT 1, Swรณon's latest affordable print in aid of the Heliotrope Foundation's projects is now available from their website; unsigned, 13โณx19โณ digital print from an edition of 350 for $50. The print depicts Thalassa who is the Greek goddess of the sea. The image references Swoรณn's 'Swimming Cities' and 'Miss Rockaway Armada' projects and the model for the portrait is Naima Penniman from the performance troupe Climbing Poetree.
Also, Swรณon's tiles made at Braddock Tiles are now available from the website too; previously they weren't available for shipping outside the UK.

Swoon related news, by yoyosh on May 30, 2016 23:36:34 GMT 1, I wonder what the thought process is of all these prints from Braddock Tiles (also the new print from this event) being UNsigned? It's not like Swoon herself is unavailable to sign these at or around her own events. Anyone have some insight?

It's not like Swo on herself is unavailable to sign these at or around her own events. Anyone have some insight? I think it's simply to keep the prints as affordable as possible, as her signed prints are obviously a lot more expensive. Releasing these unsigned prints means that most people who just love the image can afford to have it on their wall without Swoon significantly reducing the price of her work across the board.

Swoon related news, by sakyamuni on Jul 19, 2016 13:17:13 GMT 1, update from swoon studio
Swoon Studio is excited to announce that one of the artistโs most iconic portraits, Alison the Lacemaker, will be featured as a brand new print release on Wednesday, July 20th. Presented on handmade tea-stained jute paper, each signed-and-numbered 20โ x 26โ edition of 150 presents a beautifully vivid multicolor and metallic gold silkscreen of the iconic figure, which debuted over ten years ago at Swoonโs eponymous New York solo show with Jeffrey Deitch.
Alison the Lacemaker marks the first major release from Swoon in Print, Swoon Studioโs direct sales platform for editioned prints. Swoon described of Alison the Lacemaker:
โWhen Iโm drawing a portrait, I will often have an art-historical reference somewhere in my mind. Itโs usually not that I set out to make a reference; just that when Iโm drawing, Iโll find a similarity in spirit or composition and let it keep the portrait company while Iโm drawing. For Alison the Lacemaker, I was drawing a portrait of my friend sewing when Vermeerโs Lacemaker emerged as a natural muse. The portrait is in honor of theLacemaker, but also a separate nod to the ability of early European woodcut mastersโlike Jost Amman in his noted depiction of Adam and Eveโto tell such poignant stories about the knowledge of our own mortality.โ
In the spirit of the artist's collaborative approach, Swoon offers collectors the opportunity to acquire this work directly from her studio as the first major release on Swoon In Print. The limited edition Alison the Lacemaker will be available on Swooninprint.com on Wednesday July 20th at noon est.

Swoon related news, by adewilliams on Jul 20, 2016 15:08:09 GMT 1, it is a lovely print with lots of Swoon references within it which I really love. I can't help thinking the components could come together better, the space between Alison the central figure, and the lace looks like theres an invisible work top or something.
If the price is right though I'm definitely in.

Swoon related news, by South Bound on Jul 20, 2016 18:24:19 GMT 1, I think the "rays" coming from the character's body are using the same paint / ink that are used to outline the image in "Nee Nee from Braddock". If so, they look Sooooo much better in person and really pop.
Unfortunately, can't buy this, but I think those that do will enjoy it

Swoon related news, by Feral Things on Aug 11, 2016 9:51:59 GMT 1, Swoon has some new unique variants of 'Miss Rockaway' up on her swooninprint.com site. The Miss Rockaway skeletal-mermaid was the main image for the armada of seven rafts which traveled down the Mississippi in 2006 finding new ways of living. The image takes its name from Rockaway Beach which is at the end of the A-Line which was the train line on which Swoon and the Toy Collective used to carry out ad interruptions. (Random graffiti fact of the day: It's also right next door to the neighbourhood out on the edge of Queens where Rammellzee came from).

Swoon related news, by Sanscript on Aug 11, 2016 13:46:29 GMT 1, I like Swoon - I feel like maybe her popularity has waxed and waned over the years, or maybe it was just me that waxed and waned, however I have had the good fortune to live in both London and New York, and I always enjoy seeing her pieces on the streets. Distinctive and different. There is only one Swoon.

Distinctive and different. There is only one Swoon. Its always perplexed me why Swoon isn't mentioned much on this forum. She is a very talented artist, who does plenty of street work, has a unique style and does a tremendous amount of charity work. I was fortunate enough to live in Brooklyn for a while and saw her early one morning putting up a piece in W.Burg, I'd see them around the area and it was a nice surprise when a new one popped up. Her show at the Brooklyn museum was amazing, huge pieces, must of taken ages to put some of those pieces together.
I think a few of her recent releases haven't been too popular, possibly the content doesn't appeal to everyone. I've got a couple of Kamayura edition variants and they are stunning, a meaningful image, hand cut wheat pastes, hand painted, has it all IMO. Plus the price was reasonable when you compare these unique edition variants to a second tier unsigned Banksy. I've got a few Banksy prints but I spend more time looking at the Swoons than I do the Banksy pieces.

Swoon related news, by South Bound on Aug 11, 2016 15:12:28 GMT 1, I agree with all of the above statements. I think she is not mentioned much because people tend to gravitate to art that has to beat you over the head with its statement / meaning and IMO her work is much more subtle. I have a couple variants as well, and guests tend to point them out far more than any other art I own.

There are artists that just don't get embraced here but are embraced by collectors and museums.
As a native NY'er not only have I seen her pieces up, but while riding my bike in Red Hook I saw her and assistants doing a big work about a year ago - stopped to say hi.
