Re-issuing a Damaged print., by Peter Bengtsen on May 14, 2016 10:16:13 GMT 1, Just to make things clear. I have never sold any of my art in the past two years collecting. And I was never re-issued a print in the past, and didn't even know thats a thing. Yours is a perfect example of why it probably shouldn't be "a thing".
If you guys think I'm opportunistic, feel free to think so. I just wanted to see what the advice would be. At the end of the day i can do whatever i want. Ok, Cartman.
[...] I'm happy i own the image twice. I think I might have come out opportunistic because of that. And no I'm not going to rip it all up. You don't "own the image twice". How many times did you pay for it? The answer to that question should give you some idea of how many prints are meant to be in your possession.
My question was not: should i rip it up? And since the artist didn't tell me to rip it i will not message him: please can I rip it?... As has been pointed out before, your initial questions were based on the notion that keeping both prints is acceptable. This is not the case, as you were issued a new print to replace a damaged one. Therefore, answering your initial questions, rather than pointing out their false premise, would be like answering the question: "How stupid are you, on a scale from 9 to 10?".
[...]I wish people where kinder... its the first thread i made because i thought I've never seen any information about this subject... It is good that you raised the question. Less positive that you then disregard the answers you get from experienced collectors because they don't correspond to what you want to hear.

Re-issuing a Damaged print., by chads007 on May 14, 2016 13:06:51 GMT 1, You only paid for and therefore own one image. The first is now outside the edition. The replacement must be shredded or returned (I would return it unless the artist has asked to have it destroyed and photographed). I don't think the other 3 owners would be happy, and nor would you.

Re-issuing a Damaged print., by Deleted on May 14, 2016 14:14:59 GMT 1, Thank you very much to everyone that gave me their opinion. Im new to collecting. Just to let you know i bought the print a few months back. The print is edition of 4 and the artists did not give me any instructions of what to do with the damaged print. The last thing i would want to do is contact the artist and bother him again, to ask: what should i do with it? And yes, my thoughts are that i will keep one and give one to my brother. Just wanted to know what you guys thought of selling one of these. (that is not my intention, but its just confusing to me that i have TWO same numbered prints of an edition of 4, that is a pretty decent value print. Sorry for the people who think this thread is ridiculous. Some of the opinions shared here where helpful. You contacted the artist because you were bothered by the damage on the original print? He offered to REPLACE it with a new print (mint condition this time). Because it is a replacement, send the artist back his damaged print. You paid for ONE print, you should have ONE print. It is from an edition of 4, not edition of 5.
Send the artist your damaged print, to proof you have only one print in your possession.
Done deal.

Re-issuing a Damaged print., by Dive Jedi on May 18, 2016 21:24:55 GMT 1, I was in a similar situation lately. I first contacted the artist, since I did not feel good destroying my replaced print as well. We decided I would cut off the damage, the edition number and signature. And give it to someone who would enjoy it. This way the size is different, there is no extra number around and you can make someone happy.
My first advice would be to contact the artist. Since he replaced your damaged print technically he is the owner of the original one. In my opinion.

Cut the rubbish you didn't come on here to ask for opinions... you already made up your mind and are seeking permission for your own conscience.
The issue is.... at what point will you decide to sell it? and if you give the print to someone else when will they decide to sell it? Therefore when will I or anybody else become a victim of fraud, despite that never being your intention.

Re-issuing a Damaged print., by thisisit on May 20, 2016 13:38:52 GMT 1, After contacting the artist, and getting a response that was not very passionate, we agreed on removing the edition number from the print, and treating it as a reject. Thank you everyone for your advice.

Re-issuing a Damaged print., by Happy Shopper on May 20, 2016 13:57:52 GMT 1, Maybe for the sake of clarity (and so you're not asked "Is this one of THOSE prints?" every time you post something for sale), perhaps just post a picture of the 2 prints we're talking about.
Just an idea, and totally up to you. I'm sure everyone's wondering what the edition of 4 is!
