Harland Miller Print, Canvas, WANTED, by DrWhite on Aug 16, 2016 12:12:30 GMT 1, If it's an edition of 25 and there are 25 portfolios for sale, it doesn't look likely that copies are available separately. I would love to be wrong though...ย Yeah, they have split a few portfolios. I can't remember how much the HM is, but send them an email.
I got this reply ...
To respond to this demand, we did indeed split a number of sets, and actually split a further five yesterday โ two of these remain. These two Harlandโs are available at ยฃ5,000 each. If any further sets are split (there are five box sets left), Harland has advised us to increase the price again.
Makes the "brideshead" screenprint on paddle8 look cheap ? m.paddle8.com/work/harland-miller/119111-gateshead-revisited/

His print prices do seem to be heading up rapidly. The A/P Gateshead Revisited currently for sale appears to be one of his last more affordable ones.
Even Heroin... is currently up at ยฃ2000 on Ebay!
Personally I don't like stepped pricing on editioned prints, If you don't get in early you have no chance and the edition doesn't always sell out, but he's not the only one who does it.
ps the ยฃ5400 price on Blain Southern website says it includes VAT ( www.blainsouthern.com/bookshop/71 )

Harland Miller Print, Canvas, WANTED, by Oliver Clatworthy Fine Art on Aug 16, 2016 19:41:25 GMT 1, I thought true lithographs were an exceptional and traditional method of printing. Surely these Harland Miller prints are such Lithographs? opposed to the cheaper offset lithographic / litho process which is used to print newspapers, magazines and posters.

Harland Miller Print, Canvas, WANTED, by pippyt75 on Aug 16, 2016 22:52:46 GMT 1, Bang on. It's a beautiful colour way, an edition of just 25, you get 9 other prints from some of the best contemporary artists around plus it's for one of the most important charities going in this day and age. I'm holding out for the raffle but I very much doubt anyone would regret buying this set.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is not a hand lithograph โ the far more desirable, artisanal printmaking method involving a close collaboration between artist and master printer, and requiring the artist to draw directly onto the stone, aluminium or other printing element.

Curwen are a very good printers and I can't imagine they would waste the opportunity to work with Harland Miller by producing something second rate. Here is details of their Litho production method: www.thecurwenstudio.co.uk/services.html
I could of course be wrong. Here is a nice pic of it being produced.

Harland Miller Print, Canvas, WANTED, by mawk on Aug 17, 2016 17:37:00 GMT 1, Are Artist Proofs really more valuable?
Looking at the one still (just) for sale on Paddle8

They are, basically, exactly the same print as the editioned ones aren't they?

Harland Miller Print, Canvas, WANTED, by met on Aug 19, 2016 1:01:16 GMT 1, The Harl and Mil ler Who Cares Wins print offered by Liberty is an offset lithograph โ being the photomechanical commercial printing method commonly used for newspapers, books, magazines, posters, etc. For the avoidance of doubt, it is not a hand lithograph โ the far more desirable, artisanal printmaking method involving a close collaboration between artist and master printer, and requiring the artist to draw directly onto the stone, aluminium or other printing element. If the basis for comparison were narrowed and restricted to offset printing only, we'd be on the same page.
Many here will be familiar with The Curwen Studio and the other studios falling under Coriander's umbrella. It's almost certain that โ as far as offset lithographs go โ the Harland Miller Who Cares Wins edition will have been produced to the highest standard: using a proofing press, hand-feeding each sheet, quality-checking every print individually, etc.
I have plenty of art books where the images (reproduced using the offset process) also look great. Good enough to slice out and frame, even if they're less impressive when examined under magnification.
The point I was stressing, to ensure members were clear on what they might be buying, is that the prints are offset lithographs, as opposed to traditional hand lithographs. In the useful link you provided, the dropdown section 'Lithography: the process' focuses especially and unsurprisingly on the latter.
--------
As mentioned in my earlier post, offset lithography is photomechanical; it reproduces an already-existing original. In no way should this be mistaken for hand lithography. The difference between the two (including with respect to time and effort required of the artist) is one of night and day. It's therefore unhelpful when the description on Liberty's website simply refers to "Lithograph". This encourages confusion, even more so when the price per print has reached ยฃ5,000.
Regardless of how well these multiples were produced, they will never be more than offsets. [In a similar manner, archival pigment prints may be churned out by experienced and skilled technicians, using the most advanced copying machines, the best quality pigments and high-grade paper. Despite all this, and in whatever way they're puffed, the prints will never be more than inkjets.]
--------
Curwen didn't "waste the opportunity to work with Harland Miller". I'm confident the studio did the most it could given the budget, time constraints and availability of the artist. An offset is better than nothing.
But, all other things being equal, no reputable and capable printmaker would have gone for offset lithography as its first choice. If Miller had been entirely at Curwen's disposal (rather than preoccupied with preparations for his show at Blain|Southern Berlin), you can bet your first-born that the studio would have loved for him to create original drawings on stone or metal plates for the production of a "proper" lithograph.
--------
With that said, I'm well aware many collectors aren't so bothered about the printmaking process. In this particular case, the medium and process are largely beside the point anyway. They take a back seat to Liberty's campaigning work, which the raffle and sale of these prints are supporting.
