RARE ROBIN COLEMAN FOR SALE, by Dibbs 45 on May 23, 2016 19:23:59 GMT 1, There is no secondary market for his work as far as I know, so I guess it's a question of what someone is willing to pay.

RARE ROBIN COLEMAN FOR SALE, by met on May 31, 2016 18:07:09 GMT 1, Would this go better on the .bay..? I would say yes.
Here's the difficulty with trying to sell your piece on this platform:
Although there are plenty of keen enthusiasts here who are relatively new to art and have little experience in collecting, a message board by its very nature promotes the exchange of information, ideas and opinions. It means complete novices can sometimes narrow their own knowledge-gap by reading the posts of seasoned collectors or professionals who've been around for years or decades, are informed, and also have a trained eye.
Novices can thus benefit from other forum members who:
(i) actively visit museums, art galleries, art fairs, auction-house viewings, pop-up shows, degree shows and artist studios; (ii) read books, watch documentaries, and attend lectures or debates about art, artists and the art world; (iii) regularly chat with other collectors, dealers and curators; and (iv) can see through the tactics and machinations of those with vested interests who attempt to promote and/or sell bad work.
Occasionally, all of this allows new collectors to dodge bullets and avoid making potentially costly mistakes they otherwise would have made had it not been for the safety net of the forum.
With eBรกy, however, new collectors are alone. In isolation, they just have their ignorance and inexperience to rely on.
Consequently, I believe the chances of duping someone into buying terrible art by a charlatan like Robin Coleman are far better on eBรกy than on a public message board.

You were SO CLOSE to not being a dick... so close. If you had just left off that last sentence.
I get that we're on the internet here, but there's a nice way of saying things, and then there's the above.

RARE ROBIN COLEMAN FOR SALE, by met on Jun 1, 2016 14:05:17 GMT 1, a bit harsh on the artist Then we are in disagreement, which of course is fine.
For me, it is the artist who is a bit harsh on us.
I'd argue he's taking the public for fools. It's an approach that may succeed with some viewers (and even some art dealers) in the short term, but one that's neither noble nor sustainable. What was that quote about fooling people, attributed incorrectly to Lincoln and more recently applied to advertising?
Robin Coleman's work isn't even strong enough to be accepted for a foundation course at many art schools. My suspicion is that if you sat him down for an honest chat over a few drinks, he too would eventually acknowledge being somewhat of an artistic fraud just trying his luck.
This kind of creative output reflects poorly on a whole profession. It appeals most to those least informed about art โ and also to dealers who believe they can exploit such ignorance. It's the art equivalent of what Michael Pollan refers to as "edible food-like substances" masquerading as food. And if I spotted a child or Mork from Ork reaching out for boxes of Cocoa Puffs and Lucky Charms, I'd also try my best to distract them and guide them instead towards the fresh fruit and vegetables aisle. It would be the duty of any responsible adult.
There's no real harm in the occasional guilty pleasure or treat. In my case, it's chips covered with too much salt. But I'm under no false impression they're good for me, and the expenditure is limited to one or two pounds. We're not talking about hundreds or thousands of pounds (possibly life-changing sums) combined with the delusion of making a significant financial return at some undisclosed point in the future.
If you genuinely believe your previous "Sound investment" comment and that my assessment of Coleman's work is wrong, then take your piece to Andrew Lamberty and see how much he'll pay for it outright. Or, even better, wait a few years and offer it on consignment to the open arms of Sotheby's or Christie's.

RARE ROBIN COLEMAN FOR SALE, by Slip on Jun 1, 2016 20:21:17 GMT 1, What an idiot! I love his work too! This one is not my particular favourite but that's only my opinion and what do I know. They are selling for 16k upwards at a very well known London gallery so he must be doing something right.

Because they sell for a lot of money they must be good?
You've just illustrated met's point perfectly.

Hong Kong Phooey, number one super guy. Hong Kong Phooey, quicker than the human eye.
He's got style, a groovy style, and a car that just won't stop. When the going gets tough, he's really rough, with a Hong Kong Phooey chop (Hi-Ya!)
