The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by bone on Jun 4, 2016 1:13:04 GMT 1, I am telling you right now. Hillary is crooked and wants to continue Obamacare (our failed new health system) which raised my insurance 200% and I couldn't afford my insurance anymore. I have NEVER not had health insurance until Obamacare. Its like health care in Canada. Everyone who makes under 20k a year (people who dont work) are covered but no one can see the doctors for months and months. If Hillary wins, We in the US are SCREWED. There are countries that don't even consider women 2nd rate citizens like This list - elitedaily.com/women/separate-unequal-countries-worst-gender-inequality-education. They WILL NEVER respect the US. US will be tested and threatened like never before. YES, you can make the argument that where there is money to be made, deals will get done but I see much more problems having the first women president in the US ever then being a positive. I am from the US. We already had the first african american president in office and it was a disaster. Not because of his skin color, but because he has tried to turn the US into a socialistic country. We are now at 15 trillion in debt. See here - US Debt Clock. Obama should have been impeached already for pushing policies through illegally that were denied by the senate/congress. Obama violated the law so much which should of led to being impeached then Bill Clinton did (He had sex in the oval office). As for Trump, well only confidence I would have in him is fixing our economy because of the cut throat/successful biz man he is. I am sure we would end up in more wars with him under office then any president EVER which is also scary. But the options stink. Its a lose lose here. This whole post is fucked, but one part is especially wrong and appalling.
everyone who makes under 20k a year (people who dont work)
26% of the people in US make under 10.55/an which is $21,944 a year. Not far off from under 20k a year. Maybe in your bubble of friends it seems crazy, but not everyone is rich, actually most are not. 51% of all workers make under 30k a year

Interested as to why you think Trump's success (or lack thereof) as a business man would translate to his being able to "Fix" our economy?

The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by Deleted on Jun 8, 2016 20:02:53 GMT 1, Both of these candidates are flawed but unfortunately for the US it seems the choice is between these two. Wether successful business people like Trump are able to solve the issues affecting a large proportion of Americans is yet to be seen. From my limited knowledge there is an disillusioned underbelly of America that live in near poverty, when it promotes itself as the country of success. I am not a socialist by any means but if you do nothing to help these people you become part of the problem. I wish I was more knowledgeable of the issues that the majority of Americans find a concern. I just hope that a new breed of politicians come forward who care more for the people than they do for themselves, both here and around the world. Politics should not be a career, it should be about helping the people you live alongside of.

The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by Deleted on Jun 8, 2016 22:00:29 GMT 1, It seems todays politicians only care about helping the very wealthy.
I don't know if Obama changed the lives of the poor and sometimes badly educated in America. I see poorly educated as victims of the system.
Is this song still as relevant today as it was when it was written? Looking at what goes on in Flint Michigan etc.
I'm not American or in the US and think it is.

The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by wakeskater on Jun 25, 2016 17:50:46 GMT 1, I wanted to share this podcast on the subject of Drumpf. The first half discusses what most of us think of him and how he came to be a political figure. The title is miss leading as the second half talks and the end of faith. ""Disclaimer"" If the second half is going to offend you then I recommend not listening to it.
Worth the listen!

The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by Deleted on Jun 26, 2016 0:35:29 GMT 1, Boris Johnson was born in New York, so he could run for President if you want?
He actually can't yet, if ever. Even though he is a 'natural born citizen' of the United States, you have to reside in the US for 14 years prior to being able to be President(side note, you also have to be at least 35).

Sam Harris is among the most lucid, relevant and, quite frankly, courageous thinkers of the moment.
This is an exceptional podcast. I too highly recommend it, especially the first half you refer to (itself in two parts) running from 2:52 โ 1:03:43.
[As an aside, why suggest that people not listen to the second half if they might be offended? Ironically, this presumably well-intentioned advice (and general mindset) is an aspect of the very problem Harris is attempting to address in the first half.]
The commentary is less incisive regarding Donald Trump than about one of the likely reasons for his ascendancy. Exploring the latter is crucial. Instead of just pointing a finger at Trump and the apparent imbeciles, ignoramuses and bigots who support him, it forces people to ask themselves an uncomfortable question:
To what extent are we โ the intelligent, informed, liberal-minded and empathetic among us โ responsible for the current political success of Trump and others like him?
------------
By way of taster and encouragement, here's a transcript of 22:32 โ 25:18:
"Yes, there's a lot to say about Clinton. And if you're going to bring her husband into it, there's just a wasteland of embarrassment there. But these are not the sorts of things that could push the career of our species into the ditch.
Trump shows every sign of being that sort of character, where a combination of hubris and ignorance of a sort that we have never seen could create extraordinary economic and political chaos. There is nothing like that on Clinton's side, hence a 'lesser of two evils' argument makes perfect sense here.
The amazing thing about Trump is that he is so terrible that he has completely re-set everyone's expectations of what is conceivably acceptable in a presidential candidate.
You've seen the footage of him openly mocking a disabled reporter, right? Watch that footage, and imagine what that would have done to any other person's campaign. Imagine President Obama eight years ago doing that. Imagine Hillary Clinton today doing that. That's the end of the campaign.
Trump has done a dozen things like that โ that are so unpresidential, that show such poor judgment, such a lack of impulse control, such a pettiness, such narcissism, such emotional and intellectual immaturity, it would be inconceivable to promote such a person in any other context as a candidate of a major political party. And yet here we are with Trump.
And I do share the view that has been expressed by many โ and that I actually expressed early on โ that liberals in their political correctness are largely culpable for this, because we are all tired of political correctness. Being a bully and a braggart and a buffoon is not the only way to disavow political correctness. But I believe it is true that everyone's loss of patience with politically correct lies has allowed one of the most fraudulent and egocentric people who has ever walked the earth launch what is now an all-too-plausible bid for the presidency.
And political correctness is even now confusing people about Trump. It's causing them to focus on the points of least concern, and in fact remain blind to what is attractive about him for people."

It's causing them to focus on the points of least concern, and in fact remain blind to what is attractive about him for people." You know, I didn't put much thought into that until you mentioned something, but you are correct. I guess I put the disclaimer in so as to not redirect the topic of the thread. It could also be the fact that I'm from and currently reside in the deep south where questioning religion is one of the biggest taboos. I think for that reason my subconscious kicked in and took over. Or it could be from all the trigger warnings that I have to be aware of nowadays when dealing with kids in my college classes because they are unable to accept facts that go against their ideas of how life should be.
I wanted to share this podcast on the subject of Drumpf. The first half discusses what most of us think of him and how he came to be a political figure. The title is miss leading as the second half talks and the end of faith. ""Disclaimer"" If the second half is going to offend you then I recommend not listening to it. Worth the listen! www.samharris.org/podcast/item/the-end-of-faith-sessions-2Thank you for posting. Ironically, this presumably well-intentioned advice (and general mindset) is an aspect of the very problem Harris is attempting to address in the first half.] The commentary is less incisive regarding Donald Trump than about one of the likely reasons for his ascendancy. Exploring the latter is crucial. Instead of just pointing a finger at Trump and the apparent imbeciles, ignoramuses and bigots who support him, it forces people to ask themselves an uncomfortable question: To what extent are we โ the intelligent, informed, liberal-minded and empathetic among us โ responsible for the current political success of Trump and others like him? ------------ By way of taster and encouragement, here's a transcript of 22:32 โ 25:18: "Yes, there's a lot to say about Clinton.

The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by Poly Mindset on Jul 5, 2016 17:48:16 GMT 1, Can't say that I like Trump or Clinton, but I fear Trump might win. It's obvious we can't trust any of our leaders. In light of recent events regarding Hilary Clinton and the FBI, I believe the main factor is where do you draw the line between "extremely careless" and gross negligence? I equate "extremely careless" to recklessness and therefor gross negligence. In my opinion Hilary should be brought up on misdemeanor charges. So for our next president we will either get a liar or a kook. I just feel doomed. Thank God for urban art to help me escape.

The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by Deleted on Jul 5, 2016 18:10:26 GMT 1, Trump versus Clinton. I would like to see Trump win.
It sounds unbelievable but I get the feeling Trump has more integrity and honesty than Clinton.
Having said that if Bernie Sanders was the Democratic candidate then i'd vote for Bernie above the others.

The next US President? Clinton or Trump, by sgolby on Jul 5, 2016 20:52:22 GMT 1, Clinton. Hands down the best option, and despite my primary vote for Sanders, I actually believe Clinton would make a better president anyway. Trump panders to the base ignorance of this country while at the same time being the embodiment of the crooked system that is in place in the US that protects companies and individual owners of companies above all else. They like to call it Capitalism however it is not Capitalism, whatsoever.

If elected considering her campaign and other donations she will be repaying favours through her term as President and not working for the people.

Europe is bad for Europe, in that they are unable to actually work as a body to to pass guidelines that are acceptable to all nations. The Euro currency transition was horribly mismanaged by the nations and has exacerbated the underlying issues that exist within the E.U and E.E.C, i.e entitlement and austerity reform to fit the size of the populace as opposed to idealistic policies which were put into place 60 years ago. Please elaborate on why Hillary will be bad for Europe, as opposed to issuing a trump length accusation with zero backup.
If elected ANY AND EVERY official panders to the lobbyists and special interests with enough money and power to gain facetime and argue their cause. Further, if you understood American politics you would know that the President is virtually powerless in terms of enacting any real policy. Their power comes from the bully pulpit, but the real work is done, or unfortunately in our case, not done by the congress and senate. The president sets the tone, or at least tries to and does what he or she can in order to rally support to their cause.
@ploppi, might I ask where you are from?
