Art Auction Result Providers, by firstimer on Aug 12, 2017 22:09:55 GMT 1, Hey guys - its been a few months, which site would you recommend these days? I tend to only buy maybe 2 or three pieces a year, but as my budgets get a little more serious, I figure its best to invest into a subscription.
Generally tend to buy contemporary art, however starting to look into Terry O'Neill photography. Would anyone know if these websites include photogs?

Art Auction Result Providers, by Harveyn on Oct 17, 2017 9:28:56 GMT 1, I am looking to sign up to an auction result database and my first thought is Artnet Database.
The individual rollover subscription appears to be quite good but the number of searches at only 10 per month seems low. Very low. Also I am not sure if this refers only to specific searches against one artist and can I still view auction results in some sort of general capacity which is unlimited?
Any Artnet users out there?
Any other providers that you would recommend?
I was using Blouin Art Sales Index but I am not sure how comprehensive its searches are.

You can try widewalls.ch. It's free and if you search the artist, you can find a tab titles auction results.

It's cheaper.

Art Auction Result Providers, by Pattycakes on Oct 17, 2017 22:23:38 GMT 1, I use Artnet, Artprice and Gordon's. Artnet is painfully expensive but frankly has no equal when it comes to researching paintings, works on paper, etc, I don't even want to say what it costs me per year.
Out of interest what are you going to be looking up? In this I mean will it mostly be prints ? If so I'd suggest you try Gordon's.
Gordon's is the professional print price database, it's a one off fee for annual online access (IFRC about $500 p/a with the photography database as well) It's absolutely incredible and the information in gives far exceeds any other database for prints, even Artnet. However, you need to know how to use it, there are no images, and you'll need to know the name of the print or the catalogue raisonne reference in order to look something up, but it has prices that go back to the mid 80s. It will give you global price results in multiple currencies on exchange when sold, and often give you fuller cataloguing detail than Artnet provides. It's not the easiest to navigate but it's brilliant.

Oh and one order gives you 2 user names so you can share with a friend if you want to.

Art Auction Result Providers, by artfulinvestor on Nov 3, 2017 22:33:01 GMT 1, I use Artnet as well and it is expensive at 10 searches per month plus additional fees if you go over. That being said, one search encompasses the last 100 auction results for the artist... If you search an additional 100 results (last 200) that counts as 2 searches out of 10 for the month. Just something to be aware of.

Just something to be aware of. You can pay more for about 30 searches a month which is the plan I utilize or still more for unlimited searches. Pricey for sure, but the information learned has been worth every penny from my experience. I've also gotten into the habit of downloading most of my searches in pdf form for future reference plus I save many of the searches in their cloud database. It's fascinating to go back and looks at searches from 10+ years ago as most of those are not in that first 100 you alluded to above anymore. It's a wonderful resource.

Hindsight bud. If I do a Banksy search in my email Iโm depressed for a day. Dating back to when I first became a fan in 2006, right around the time of his Barely Legal show, I find old emails of me passing up signed prints for 2-4K, unsigned for 1500....signed GWRB for 40k. The best is a B canvas I passed up for 120k, thatโs likely a few million now๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ

Not that many regrets, except for not buying a Banksy Flags for ยฃ4k two years ago because I thought I'd have a think about it and then maybe buy in a couple of months (by which time it was nearer ยฃ20k).
Oh and a massive Sebas Velasco original that I forgot to bid on and sold for about ยฃ700. I'm still annoyed about that.
Got a lot of old emails about watched Banksy items that I thought were too expensive to commit to.

Art Auction Result Providers, by Lord Lucas Roham on Apr 2, 2021 10:15:29 GMT 1, Sold many a print when I was a poor student for 2k. Kicking myself for selling a Nola Grey for 3k. Probably worth 150k now.
I once sold a Stop and Search print to someone (for 2.5k) who, on arrival claimed it was creased. I had videod myself rolling it and packaging it so it clearly wasn't me. Never found put what had happened tbh. After I sent them the video he didn't get back to me. I suspect his wife opened it and rolled it up side to side against the grain.
