I listened to her interview with Whitechapel Gallery where she talked about her renewed creative focus since her illness, plus the need to sell works to fund her entirely altruistic new studio in Margate for budding artists. So I guess this may explain the new prints.

7.5k each… That’s a high start price.. compared to 3k (or whatever) for Emin prints a couple of years ago!

I doubt artists at her level base their pricing on how much money they need to be honest.
I appreciate that there are lots of prints available on the secondary market. But I expect collectors will pay the premium for these new works. Also, it looked to me (from the photographs in the email) that these are quite large prints, compared to much of what is available secondary.
Time will tell whether they have been priced appropriately.
Sadly they are most definitely beyond my meagre purse.

You would be better off buying two Hirst Empresses for the same price - better to put-up, look at and sell in the future !

I'm told it is was already CE's most successful print launch even prior to the prints going on open sale.



In terms of 'worth' it's hard to put some kind of metric on that. It's a primary market, signed work by a blue chip, internationally renowned artist in a large format, low volume (ed of 50) from a world class print house. For collectors who love her work and feel Emin is currently undervalued (I'll nail my colours to the mast here - I do on both scores) and representative as it is of her recent brush with death, for me it represents an opportunity not to be missed. The works in the flesh are extremely dramatic and anyone going for one will, in my opinion, not be disappointed.
