Interesting that despite what looks to be record crowds for a Carl Freedman Gallery exhibition and their inclusion, the Counter prints don’t appear to have sold more.

The quality is great but they can only print 70 a day or something so it’s very hit and miss as to whether they have any. One per person £25 each. The code no longer works but I wonder why they stopped it and raised all the prices?

Can’t remember if I said it before but those etchings IMMA had a couple of years ago were an absolute bargain when compared to these prints, lucky to grab one

I paid 405 euros delivered to the UK. Was curious so checked ebay and there is one for £2.2k but another seems to have sold for around £850 not long ago.

Yeah agreed. These were (I think) originally released by Emin International around 2013. Assume IMMA had a show of her work following that and bought the remainder of the edition (200) in at the time. I tend to go to a couple of shows there every year and had noticed them framed up a couple of times in the last 5 years; price seemed decent but I only ended up purchasing one just before the link was posted on here - and I believe they were then completely hoovered up in a matter of days. They don’t compare to the £6k plus releases, but when considered alongside the similarly sized/editioned etchings on CE (I personally don’t like any of the CE remaining images) they were indeed good value in and around £375. That’s actually how much they cost on release back in 2013. Will hold on to mine as doubt I’ll pick anything comparable up moving forward. TE prices only moving one way……

I think this print is worth £10k every day of the week.

And that’s why most people on here wouldn’t consider buying it - because they can’t see short or even medium term profit in it.

Lots of Tracey’s prints can take time to move on primary when they aren’t priced in a tiered structure, or aren’t discounted by 50% compared to what equivalent works might achieve at auction (as was the case with Miller’s “Hate’s Outta Date”.

So who buys these works?

Collectors who can afford to spend £10k and not see it for a while; those who appreciate the art for what it is - a very decently sized (big!) statement piece with fluid, minimalist signature drawing/brushstrokes by Emin. I’d rather have one of these than most of the recent Counter portraits.

Very true. But I guarantee you’d see 70% of those flipped within the first 12-18 months. Which I think the artist and gallery are alive to and it’s understandable that they’d want to avoid that in a charity edition run.

Why would they care about how much it gets flipped if they are doing a charity release for the right reason?

Surely the primary objective is to sell out fast and get the cash straight to the people who need it.

What's the point of a charity release where the charities get no money because it hasn't sold?

I hope none of the beneficiaries of the Gormley or Emin print sales are clinging to the edge of a cliff waiting for the next person to push the button on a purchase.
