Street art destruction
Message to people who want street art for their living room.

Let me start with 2 or 3 basics about street pieces :
- A street piece doesn't exist anymore once it is no longer up on it wall. It is a violation of the artist's rights (cf Visual Artist Rights Act in the USA) to remove a work of site-specific art from its original site as it is equivalent to destroying it.
- My mosaics in the street are not signed. They are just tiles that I bought in a common tiles or hardware store and are very easy to be perfectly replicated. Those pieces of mosaic will never be authentificated by a certificate.
- Nevertheless, in situ they have a big emotional value for some people who live near them, who pass by them everyday, or who discover them while travelling on the other side of the world.

People who selfishly want a street piece for their own private homes want it so bad that they prefer to ignore those basic truths I mentioned above. Let's talk to them about what they really buy when they buy a so called "street piece" :
"My" mosaics when up on the wall could remain in perfect condition for hundreds years, but they break nine times out of ten when somebody tries to remove them from the wall.
Therefore, the mosaics that the pseudo sellers offer are nine times out of ten just new tiles that they bought for a few euros in a common tiles store. If you are "lucky", they will be partially new tiles and partially "my" tiles...that I also bought in a common tiles store !
The worst part of this is that in order to "authenticate" what they are trying to sell you, they destroy the mosaic pieces that are in the streets. The idea is to demonstrate that they have the « real » one as the « real » one has disappeared. The street pieces are the victims of this trick...but you are fooled too !
As a conclusion, I would say that if you go and buy these pieces you selfishly take part in the destruction of a work which is offered to everybody in the streets but you are also ripped off as you will spend lots of money for some tiles that could have been bought and asembled anywhere by anybody...as you could have too !
Out of the streets, those plates of tiles can't be authenticated and don't worth more than the tiles that they are made of.
Here is a list of brands that I use so that you can "copy" my mosaics for your home without destroying the ones in the street : Opiocolor, émaux de briare, Grés céram, Simili, and Johnson for bigger tiles.
