That's certainly not what I meant. I was just reminding Shoot Again that there is a difference between being cheap and being inexpensive, and that being the gent he is, he personally is most definitely not the former. I trust he understood that.
Did he sell the print too cheaply? Most probably, but I'm comfortable he was comfortable doing so. I don't believe it is necessary for every transaction (especially those involving art) to be measured in monetary terms and I don't think I'm speaking out of turn when I suggest it's possible, when the time is right, for a vendor to look past maximum profit & financial gain.
I'd say ignore the numbers on this particular transaction. It probably wasn't the most convetional sale in terms of how it came about and was seen through to completion anyway. My guess is that both parties involved value the piece more than many might think looking at it from a distance anyway.

This print was very dear to me (as I own the original drawing of it and I failed on several occasions to buy the original painting of it) but it had to go as my wife didn't like it anymore for our household. It certainly deserved a much better home than mine at that point and I was just super happy to find such a good one as yours Daylight Robber. You reframed it to perfection and for some (weird) reason it still feels like it's (partially) mine even though it's now hanging proudly in a new home ;-) Money was really not the main point of conversation in our transaction and it felt very refreshing for once ! ;-) |
