Banksy pieces on display at MOCO in Amsterdam, by bentheartfan on Jul 4, 2016 22:42:26 GMT 1, Last month the misses and I had the opportunity to visit Amsterdam, and we saw some lovely Banksy pieces at the MOCO gallery on the Museumplein (where Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Stedelijk are).
Mix of gallery pieces, and street pieces.
The pictures I took are not great - apologies !

Most of the pieces at Moco were also on display at the Lionel Gallery sale of last year. Moco is also being set up by Lionel Gallery, I believe.

Anyone have any more info? I don't really want Lionel to source it as that it would get marked up by an extra 10 - 25%.

Banksy pieces on display at MOCO in Amsterdam, by lee3 on Jul 5, 2016 16:11:41 GMT 1, I've emailed Moco, but again if anybody has any more information, that would be fantastic. Cheers. The only information I can add is that you have at least 3 to chase down. The one at lionel was the hmv promo piece from the exit thru release:
There is also at least one other similar sized piece that is at the unsanctioned Rome show right now(my eyes prefer this one as I prefer these tags and the hood) :
And there is the mega piece that was featured at art in the streets in LA a few years ago:
Good luck and a bit of caution as Lionel seems to be a phishing operation disguised as a gallery. I didn't realize they owned or operated the Moco museum as others above mentioned. But, that now makes perfect sense since that museum installed a street piece (Heart boy) in their garden a couple months ago. When I read about a street piece being purchased and displayed at a museum, all I could wonder is what is wrong with that museum? Few, if any, other museums in the world would install such a piece for obvious reasons. Glad to finally connect the dots.

That "Forgive Us" piece was just recently sold in the last few months, so probably won't be easy to aquire from the new owner. Hope that helps.

As a newbie, maybe this is a question with an apparent answer, but what do you mean that they seem to be a phishing operation disguised as a gallery ?
When we were there two months ago, they were very transparent that the Museum was set up by the people who owned Lionel Gallery. When I inquired with Moca about the price of a Banksy, I ended up speaking with the Lionel Gallery side, it all seemed very above board.
Not everything on display at Moca when we were there was available for sale by them, but some of the works definitely were.

Banksy pieces on display at MOCO in Amsterdam, by lee3 on Jul 5, 2016 21:44:42 GMT 1, Ben:
There is loads of discussion spanning the past few years at the various banksy sites about that gallery and their pricing structure. I vividly recall when they purchased their grey barcode at auction for a song and within hours listed it for sale on artnet for 3X the price paid which is atypical. They've pushed that piece at every turn, and even at an auction since at prices that make the current market blush. I should note that I've never done business with them nor do I have an axe to grind but you asked and I'm just stating that I tend to be dismissive of galleries and people who operate that way which is not to suggest it's uncommon. As for the moco affiliation, that was just news to me which refelcts that I'm not paying particular attention.
Still, buying and/or accepting and displaying that unsanctioned heart boy street piece in the context of the museum circuit reflects to my eyes a certain level of ignorance at best. The art itself is clearly authentic so fine to enjoy it (nice photos too) but I would caution potential buyers to use the search function at the very least.

Banksy pieces on display at MOCO in Amsterdam, by Deleted on Jul 5, 2016 22:11:36 GMT 1, I bought unsigned LIITA from Lionel in 2014. Was ludicrous price initially but within a few emails the price dropped by €3000 to the going rate at that time, circa £5k if i recall well.
Print was in great condition and shipped flat in robust packing from Holland to Scotland, easy transaction.

Banksy pieces on display at MOCO in Amsterdam, by bentheartfan on Jul 5, 2016 22:14:37 GMT 1, Lee3, I appreciate that answer and explanation, thanks.
When we were there (May 2016) they had a Tesco Soup Can poster for (I think) 1250 Euros, that was sold - not sure what it had sold at, but they said it sold on the weekend. It was the least expensive of the Banksy works they had. Seems pricey now that I know it is a poster, not a print etc , but it sold - so I guess that is some validation of the value (although I don't know if it sold at a discount to the ask).
They offered a Soup Can print for € 8.500 when we were there.

Banksy pieces on display at MOCO in Amsterdam, by Castle Gallery NI on Jul 6, 2016 20:46:49 GMT 1, When putting on a "Banksy Exhibition" there should be at least some core level of understanding of the artist, theres been a lot of "Banksy Exhibitions", overall its been complete disregard for the artist, all about the money/ego. Charging high entrance fees, selling pillow cases, shopping bags and key rings, its been a farce.

First thats a wall with Banksys hanging, not a "Banksy Exhibition" or Banksy solo show, it costs nothing to view and not a Banksy cufflink in sight. The website is simply a commercial presence and will be very different shortly(long overdue), most of what i do is offline and with that im always conscious of doing what i believes right for the artist and his market, i couldve made a lot more money if thats all i was interested in, if youre ever in the area call in, its very different to the site, in every way.

I have seen 1st hand the project Andy is working on with respect to the artist and its rather special.

Banksy pieces on display at MOCO in Amsterdam, by daniel3886 on Jul 8, 2016 9:09:29 GMT 1, Having not seen the project first hand which I intend to rectify soon. I'm not as well informed as I'd like to be. As I understand it most are not for sale so I don't think it being 'all about the money' is a valid critique.
I'm certainly happy to see Andy back this place benefits from his knowledge and enthusiasm on the subject. I'm all for open debate but let's try not to shoot ourselves in the foot again.
