I reckon he's just cutting out the middle man bootleggers. It will interesting to see what happens to prices of his other toys. I would prefer a 5y companion to a dissected companion.

But it doesn't really matter - they were a limited run, KAWS collectors know this. Call them the original release, limited edition, whatever. These are different, but cool. |

The Modern is a fantastic museum and a beautiful building. Fort Worth has some other great art museums as well. It's the only US showing. Friday the 28th is a late night party with bands and DJs along with the exhibit. KAWS himself gives a lecture in late November.

The "open" edition will eventually also sell out, but hopefully everybody that likes his work will be able to buy what he wants.
Nice move by Kaws, not many artists make that choice. The original run will always remain limited and different. :-)

Boots go for around $100 for a decent copy of the 16inch version.
This will most probably stop some people picking up the 16 inch version especially as there are too many copies in the market. It will interesting to see if prices drop after this release
