Surpising that ICN are asking the customer to pay ยฃ90 for shipping from Japan when they're a UK company. In effect they're asking the customer to pay their logistics costs. I imagine there could also be a customs duty to pay on these too; anyone know what that might be on woodcuts?

I've a feeling he probably doesn't want to do work which is just put in rich(?) people's houses or is just milking his 15 minutes for every penny.
On the flip side, he does a huge amount for homelessness so maybe he just wants to price most commissions out so he can do stuff like that. There might even be a queue of people at ยฃ5k a pop so he'd be silly to charge less

That's an unusual position to be in. Someone offers you ยฃ1000 to draw a stick man on a canvas and you're able to refuse.

ICN are all over the place. Bank transfer only? If you're paying ยฃ1.8k which includes ยฃ300 (20%) VAT then import taxes shouldn't even come into it. They should be posted or collected from their London office. They've also tried to charge ยฃ300 (20%) VAT to customers outside of the EU. The prints haven't been signed yet so they are being sent to London from Japan to be signed. I don't know where you are located letiss but ยฃ90 shipping sounds insane. If the prints are being sent all the way back to Japan after being signed, only to be shipped back to customers in the West, then you shouldn't be paying ยฃ300 (20%) VAT. You should be paying ยฃ1,500 + shipping + import taxes to your government upon arrival. In the UK, these prints would qualify for 5% VAT if being shipped from outside the EU. Not that you'd be able to get ICN to fill out the customs declaration correctly. What a mess. |
