FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by Cornish Crayon on Nov 26, 2016 9:26:39 GMT 1, Also been to Cuba, and glad I was able to witness visually and absorb the revolution through its historic past, standing in revolution square and sitting on the steps of capitol building watching the world go by defiantly among the listing memories of my life time,
I was always told many moons ago to visit Cuba and Havana before Castro passes as the country will now probably change forever.
RIP

Have to say that wasn't the impression I got when I visited.
My friend live there for a year and was very much in with the locals.
I guess some will celebrate and some with mourn.

FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by Reader on Nov 26, 2016 18:18:54 GMT 1, Those indoctrinated by the right wing American media landscape never fail to surprise hey. There are White Nationalists heading to the White House and those championing Revolution in song are given Noble Prizes for litterature whilst those inspiring them are demonised. Fidel is legend, we'll be raising a glass tonight to celebrate his life and acheivements.

FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by Viking Surfer on Nov 26, 2016 18:31:34 GMT 1, With the new US / Cruise ship law, Cuba is going to change at a rapid rate.
It's one of the few places I haven't been too, but always wanted to go after reading Hunter S. Thompson's 'The Rum Diary'.
Expect a Mr. Brainwash print shortly.

FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by Cornish Crayon on Nov 26, 2016 19:07:28 GMT 1, So Miami are celebrating, why ?
One thing Castro did do was keep Cuba as Cuba,
Cuba will lose its face and recognition in the next ten years and will be Tenerife for the Americans
Such a shame.

One thing Castro did do was keep Cuba as Cuba, Cuba will lose its face and recognition in the next ten years and will be Tenerife for the Americans Such a shame. Most of the cubans in Miami were initially people fleeing Fidel's regime...so I guess the party is in order as far as they are concerned
You are absolutely right, I cringe at the thought of what American mass-tourism will do to Cuba
But on the other you can't really wish for a people to stay in dictatorship because it's kinda quaint...

FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by Cornish Crayon on Nov 26, 2016 20:04:26 GMT 1, My feelings are more towards the cuban countries history and independence as a nation,
Independence or regime ?
I guess i stand by castro's strength to hold the nation within his grasp during his seat, after all it was only with the Americans that the issues were unresolved, i wouldn't have called it a dictatorship, i never got that impression, this happened in a time when the country would have easily got turned over by a bigger country, all they did was stand up for themselves.
yes, there will be an influx of american money and the younger youth of today will probably benefit from it in 20-30 years, but not without the loss of their own history................... (i know why its called history)
RIP cuba

Hope Cuba is able to maintain sending more doctors to developing countries than all of the G8 countries combined after the inevitable changes that will happen in years to come.

FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by lucky7 on Nov 26, 2016 20:53:41 GMT 1, Fidelity Castro?
Is she like a tropical communist's daughter? Or an exotic dancer?
Now in serousness: Celebrating someone's misfortune is wrong. But feeling relief and happines for a people who suffered famine, opressiveness, murder and imprisonment for decades while half the world turned a blind eye (yes, I'm looking at you Europe), feeling relief is another thing. Good riddance.

FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by Reader on Nov 26, 2016 21:43:15 GMT 1, Let's we forget, he took on a right wing dictatorship and defeated it, created a health and education service that is the envy of the world whilst having the worlds largest super power and the whole of Europe as enemies, evaded numerous CIA backed assasination attempts and lived to the ripe old age of 90. Oh, and gave us Che Guevara whilst inspiring generations to stand up and fight back againast oppresive right wing regimes everywhere. Far from perfect I agree, but compared to right wing regimes in Latin America, an absolute saint. Cuba, population ca 11 million 99.8% literacy rates. America ? 21% can't read or write beyond that of a 10 year old. I know where I'd rather bring my kids up if I was poor.

FIDELITY CASTRO DIES, by Deleted on Nov 27, 2016 8:03:18 GMT 1, Those indoctrinated by the right wing American media landscape never fail to surprise hey. There are White Nationalists heading to the White House and those championing Revolution in song are given Noble Prizes for litterature whilst those inspiring them are demonised. Fidel is legend, we'll be raising a glass tonight to celebrate his life and acheivements. I just hope you are kidding. If Fidel is legend, he's legend for keeping his country piss poor for decades while running a totalitarian regime where people are afraid to speak their minds about a broad range of topics, where people 'disappeared' when they didn't agree with his views, where he succesfully instated a culture of fear.
The fact Cuba is so 'authentic' to us first world people just means they still live in the 60s when it comes to living standards. This is not a good thing for the common people. The common people (especially the young) get super super depressed from not having any opportunity to achieve anything in life other than to fulfill the same mechanical task their government has thought out from them for years on end. Yeah of course on the surface they will tell you that they love Fidel (because you might be from the thought police and they are extremely afraid to be thrown in jail, or worse, just disappear) but when you talk a little longer to especially the younger people, they almost break down when they tell you about the state of their lives. Education means absolutely ZERO when you can't use that education for anything other than running a small shop or rolling sigars for 12 hours a day. You do understand why communist countries are high up the list of most corrupt countries of the world, right? Because people want to feel a sense of progress, of being able to achieve something.
So, I never thought this would come out of my mouth (or fingers) ever, but as you seem to be a rather extreme left winger this is a language you must understand: when it comes to Cuba, check your privilege. Stop wanting a whole country to be oppressed and kept poor by a dictator only because it seems to authentic to you.

Marxism Communism looks like nothing more than a scam and people who manage to be the leader of whatver commie marxist authoritarian regime have millions of dollars whilst most in the country are very poor.
Wonder how much Castro's personal wealth was?
