Banksy’s coming to South Bank in the form of Lazarides new Gallery!
Tuesday 29th of November 2016
Lazarides is about to add to your South Bank experience by opening a new gallery dedicated to Banksy prints! The gallery will be called "Banksy Print Gallery" and will be primarily selling secondary market Banksy Prints.
So, let's time-warp back and recap on the connection Lazarides gallery has with Banksy. It all started in the early 1990's, Steve Lazarides was working at a photoshoot for Sleaze Nation magazine and he met Banksy. Steve went on to work with Banksy for a number of years and this helped create the buzz and controversy around "street art" that we know today.
Over the years Banksy art has become more and more popular, with several artists trying to copy his work and murals being located all over the globe. The "Banksy Print Gallery" will simply be celebrating his work and offering the public the chance to buy his prints. All of this, just in time for Christmas.
In the words of Steve Lazarides, "This gallery will sell secondary market Banksy prints and will also have a collection of my photographs from our time together, as well as displaying ephemera from the period."
The gallery itself opens to the public Friday 2nd (December 2016).
Address: 22 Upper Ground, London, SE1 9PD (The gallery is based in the Mondrian London hotel)
Opening Times: Tuesday–Saturday 11am–7pm Admission is free

New Lazarides GAllery Dedicated to Banksy Prints, by Deleted on Nov 29, 2016 21:15:42 GMT 1, Very nice too.
Altho I find this statement a bit odd. "with several artists trying to copy his work"
I don't recall Banksy being the originater of stencils on buildings or creating anything new apart from using a very well paid PR team lawyer/s ? and lots of assistants who went out and did stencils on walls and having maybe perhaps or whatever, finacial backers or investors.
Very nice too.

What scene?
There is no scene it's a PR team business plan. Using street art.
Banksy's influence on street art is similar to Saatchi's influence on Brit art.
It's not a scene.
I agree it is a very good business marketing model.
If it's just endless bollocks are you saying Banksy is one guy who goes out and does all the stencils and comes up with all the art and all the ideas for the images are 100% down to Banksy a single person?
I'm sure Banksy the guy exists but the whole PR stuff and team stuff takes a heck of a lot of financial investment.
In other words if Banksy is about the art, then why bother paying thousands to a PR team?
I'm sure you can answer that.
Brainwash lol

New Lazarides GAllery Dedicated to Banksy Prints, by sl on Nov 29, 2016 22:43:12 GMT 1, What difference does it make if Banksy has a PR team? Or if he has a bunch of artists collaborating with him?
Many great artists have had assistants and other that help produce work.
Does that mean that hiring a printmaker and not doing it yourself also dilutes the work since done in a partnership?
As your influence grows and becomes a bonafide business don't you need a team?
Can projects like LA and Dismaland be produced without a ton of help?
Maybe it is more than just one person as time has passed with him at the helm but why is it not plausible that 1 person can produce great art all over the world? Invader does it.
Ultimately who cares just keep the great work coming. His contribution to street art is undeniable.

New Lazarides GAllery Dedicated to Banksy Prints, by Dr Plip on Nov 29, 2016 22:45:29 GMT 1, I don't think you can easily complain about Banksy having a hardworking, highly skilled, yet underpaid team of plucky PR people and staff.
Or that it's not all about the art.
Look at "Banksy" in his/her entirety.
There's never been another artist like him/her/it/them.
It's something new. And I'm not talking about stencils, I'm talking about the whole thing. No other artist has done anything like what Banksy has.
You can't pigeonhole* this. You can't say it's not fair, not real, it's cheating, etc. Bitching about what is real art is like cavemen bitching when the brush was invented. Or artists bitching when other artists started using agents and representation. Or canvas.
Not that anyone's bitching, but it's pointless to cry foul. If people hold someone to a higher esteem than you think is worthy, then so what? If they aren't harming you, then leave them be. Time would be better spent standing outside churches and screaming "YOU MAD FOOLS!" at the people as they go in.
*noun: pigeonhole; plural noun: pigeonholes; noun: pigeon-hole; plural noun: pigeon-holes
1. a small recess for a domestic pigeon to nest in.

Looks like it's pretty close to ready - noticed at least one print up on the wall.

New Lazarides GAllery Dedicated to Banksy Prints, by Deleted on Nov 29, 2016 23:43:21 GMT 1, Makes you wonder how many they sold originally. Isn't he just selling being a secondary market seller???
I'm curious about where all the prints come from too. Particularly as there was the large scale Christies' show, Istanbul and Melbourne, which were all Laz Banksy secondary shows. Did the prints in those shows not sell or are there just so many in the stock room that a permanent gallery can be filled as well? Clearly the ideal scenario would be Banksy opens his own shop next door selling new prints with huge edition sizes for a £10 donation to his favourite charity; we can but dream...
Incidentally, I really liked the Laz Editions space and it's good to see it'll be back in action soon.

New Lazarides GAllery Dedicated to Banksy Prints, by Matt on Nov 30, 2016 0:17:11 GMT 1, @elviswarhol I think we get it now. Banksy is fraudulent tripe with good PR, no talent or ideas at all...
Your point has kind of lost meaning through endless repetition you know...It no longer makes any difference whether you are right / wrong or somewhere in between, which is kind of sad
Regardless of one's musical tastes, no one likes a broken record because it is pointless...
As for the Laz gallery...it was bound to happen. It will certainly be a cool place to see some rarities which will be nice
