I think artificial value is being created by people that own the print - just a hunch. If prices don't drop in the next 2-4 weeks, it will be only new print to defy the trend of correcting.

The reason the prices are still high is that enough people set a BIN of 400-450 that it suddenly becomes a norm. It doesn't matter if they sell or not but people will still bid on auctions upto that same amount. It seems to be awfully common now for people buying to sell setting unreasonable BIN prices as opposed to auctioning off.

It's odd having people reply to your messages instantly when the rest of the world is asleep.
On that note I agree with what your saying. People finding that an easy buck is not so easy anymore but still wont give in. Anyone smart enough would be holding onto their prints for a few years and then trying to sell them off. Just look at the prices of barcode and christ with shopping.

I reckon the price of these will definatly go up to a least 500 in the next few months, the only reason they were going for 350-400 is because there were about 40-50 on at the same time just before christmas.

I'm with bombhugger, and I know people think talking about price trends is mutually exculsive with enjoying art but heres my thoughts on prices of Flags,

as more different types of Banksy prints become available there will be a divide and some will become more desirable than others. Flags is a standout piece (imo), the fact that real fans could get hold of them by queueing up and scalpers could only buy one each means their supply will be limited.

this is reinforced in number of prints on Ebay dropping . . . 35-40 flag prints listed before Xmas, only 6-8 listed in Jan

So, price is normally a function of supply and demand (we've already established that supply is limited and demand is a function of desirability, and this piece is desirable)

doesn't matter these only sold for £100 and weren't signed, people like them and want them, and the supply is restricted.

don't know what the price will do, but don't think they will come down

Actually, demand is a function of price too... the lower the price, the higher the demand, even from people who may not necessarily desire a particular good (buying just because it's cheap). I think that given the relatively (very) low price of £100, Flag would have sold out very quickly even if Banksy weren't so big (especially since it's a good image and more publicly acceptable as compared to Virgin Mary).

As for the future prices for Flag, if sales continue to fade (as they have in January compared to December), prices will start falling a little. It's very easy for people to control pricese in theory - all we'd have to do is to band together and not buy any, and the scalpers who want to unload them will have no choice but to lower their prices. Alas, humans aren't perfect cooperators, so we can forget about that

The larger edition size must surely be a reason for the lower price?

Yep, I saw them too, they went back AT LEAST twice each after swapping apparrel.
