Santa's Ghetto 2006, by notitle on Dec 2, 2006 11:13:20 GMT 1, Nice work andrewd Now if only people could just start posting photos of the works so Americans can beg our forum friends in the UK to buy stuff for us!!! And while I'm sure it is frustrating how 'ghetto' SG is with all the chaos - that is part of what makes it endearing. It wasn't very endearing seeing a fat middle aged ebay business women buying 10 - YES 10 - Shat-ats and then straight after being told nothing is for sell.
i think that idiot might have been next to me in the initial mayhem.
it was all a bit crazy really. luckilly managed to get olive and purple (brown) shat-ats and a yellow chew barber.
thwaites and myself were in london really early and at the ghetto from around 10. it's not fair that staff were giving prints to some people on the sly and not others, but we came a long way to be there and were among the first 10 in the queue so I think POW understood our dissapointment and i'm glad they helped us out.
bombhugger, were you first in the queue?

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by umajets on Dec 2, 2006 11:32:30 GMT 1, Hi guys I've put a few pics up in the other thread and thought Id say hello here.
Hello!
Managed to get to the Ghetto at about 2 and was told nothing for sale. (Even though as others have pointed out , some people were buying stuff - seemed very random). Enjoyed a look around and took some photos. Will have to head back sometime this month. Hopefully they'll know what's going on by then
Interested to read on the board that there's new Hewlett prints coming out. Looking forward to seing what they are.

On the bright side, while most folk have been busy cacking themselves about the ghetto, there have been some great pieces passing through ebay for rock bottom prices, have a nice day yesterday, d-face canvas today, BME, golfsale through the week. Sod the harping about POW and new prints, some old iconic classics at the most reasonable prices they have been since easter,

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by Curley on Dec 2, 2006 17:44:54 GMT 1, Just back from SG ;D There was a queue but nothing too bad compared to Friday (bit of a shambles) . They seem to be keeping the numbers inside bit lower now and they do seem to have got a system on the go but you can still wait a while for the prints to get to the desk. As you can expect it is busy and people are all buying.
They were out of Eelus while i was there but more were expected this afternoon (dont think they will last long) I picked up a signed Insect elvis signed and that was enough for me. ;D ;D ;D

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by andrewd on Dec 2, 2006 17:46:36 GMT 1, Hi, Does anyone know if the ghetto is open tommorow and if so any idea on opening/closing times?
Opening hours are 11-8 Mon to Sat, Sun 12-6. I went again today, Saturday, and there was a massive queue outside, the security on the door said that it was 1 in and 1 out. He thought that it was half an hours worth but looked longer. What with the Banksy LA show, the massive publicity the Ghetto got in the papers and the fact that it is on Oxford Street I can't see much for sale next week. At least you can all check out the stunning Sir Eduardo Paolozzi's (dec'd) pop art mosiacs on the central line section of Tottenham Court Road tube station on the way there. Now there's a print maker to check out.

These 2 were just leaving when I tried (unsuccesfully) for 3rd time to buy a couple of bits. they shoudl really limit it one per person. I see a Chewbarber already on eBay

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by ambasidor on Dec 2, 2006 20:46:12 GMT 1, If someone is buying ten on the same prints it doesnt take a genious to work out they are doing it to sell them on for a tidy profit. If POW are supporting this by selling ten at a time so someone else can make a load of cash why dont they either sell at a real market value or limit it to only one a person, this way only real collectors are likely to buy.

I am afraid that it has happened year after year. Even at the 2003 Ghetto things were BIN on the bay for 2-4 times the POW price. Unfortunately people buy them, perhaps out of desperation or laziness ( not bothering to get down there ). I suppose that this year after the Banksy one print for one punter it seems a bit perverse to let people buy arms full of the same print. Never know though they may be being bought by people like Art Republic who have operated a very useful secondary market in POW stuff ( just a few quid over the POW price when still available and then getting on for market price when sold out ) ........For the benefit of A-R, NO I am not suggesting that you are large pony tailed over age or anything prejoratively nasty!!! ( I bought my Gangster Rat from you last Christmas..I popped into POW 'Oh there are 50 of those back @ POW towers...then Sold Out next day so Art Republic to the rescue! )

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by manchestermike on Dec 19, 2006 17:57:18 GMT 1, As the ghetto nears its close what did you pick up (apart from the very obvious) this year that you didn't expect. What, in your opinions, were the best works there and what were the worst? And what did you pass up on that you wish you didn't?
For me:
Finds of the Ghetto: The Hick (signed) and Albino Invader (not just the signed edition, but a one off signed to Zeus) - Both thanks to my wonderful girlfriend ;D Also the Harmony Korine "Untitled" is class as is the Insect "Bunny Girl" print
Best Works Loved the Dead Rebels series also the Eine hand painted "Monster" prints look fantastic
Most Disappointing The Hewlett stained glass windows, I was going to buy these off PoW and am so glad I didn't, wasn't impressed.
Passed up on The blair print, wasn't sure about it at first but it's a definate grower, should have got one...
What about you?

Most Disappointing: Zeus (I still don't get the point), missing out on Micallef! (I know that's not the way you intended the question!)
Passed up on: Faile: I really like the prints (like Mao etc.). I just couldn't convince myself to buy.

Santa's Ghetto 2006, by saffa on Dec 19, 2006 18:12:41 GMT 1, I really liked the 'vendor limb' machine. Coming from SA and having visited Mozambique on a few occations, you really see kids like that little fellow that have been victims of the landmines. It was a hard hitting display with a meaningful message.
Also really enjoyed the plastic/clingfilm animals, etc on those photos on the column.
It was my 1st Ghetto and I've only really been exposed to this kind of art for a short time but I loved most of it. I look forward to many more!
Picked up 2 Eelus prints but they were from the website - Shat-at and Chewbarber.
Merry Christmas All!

Find Pete Fowler Bonro (chrome ) looks fantastic
worst Zeus - I agree. I Like Drawing - all of it - load of balls. Notice it's about the only thing left on POW...
Passed on Banksy... doh. Had a pointless meeting to go to.
