Snik π¬π§ Stencil Artists β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by oxfordwelshchap on Sept 21, 2016 14:47:42 GMT 1, It started almost a year ago when someone posted a For Sale Thread and it stated "offers welcome" and than it got worse when another member publicly stated what their PM offers were to start a bidding war and than the slippery slope had begun and it has gotten worse every day since. I got a PM's yesterday responding to a Looking to Buy thready I did 2 months ago that said "I have the item you are looking for - how much do you want to pay ? At least on Ebay there is often a BIN and a starting price even if it is not based in reality many times. There must be some way to improve it wearology?

Snik π¬π§ Stencil Artists β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by SchrΓΆdinger's Chat on Sept 21, 2016 16:33:40 GMT 1, I have to say when I PM someone about something and they say 'what's it worth to you?' I lose interest very quickly.
Just for clarity I haven't had that response from the OP - It was more a response to Wear's experience.
It is another pet hate of mine.

The reason why I mentioned no price is, that I don't have any price indication except from what my costs are.

if you are selling it to cover costs.. then say so and accept the cost + shipping offers.
this <> rocket science

He's on the ball with cancelling orders that have appeared on ebay before they were even shipped out. I expect it pisses him off as much as it pisses off people here that would have liked them at cost to hang on their walls.

Because they have some integrity!! Giancarlo is a top guy and runs a tight business. He's built it on a reputation of fantastic work by fantastic artists and most likely doesn't believe in 'collectors' taking it for granted and tarnishing the honest proportion of the art community.
Just my take and personal opinion. He has cancelled many orders in the past because of this behaviour. Definitely not something they want to support or encourage.

I know this is a newbie question, and I have never personally flipped anything but surely a sale is a sale to a business that sells prints?

As rjf76 said, integrity means a lot and Giancarlo shows this to his customers. Too many people these days with shit customer after service. I would like to think that some people are in this business for the love of art and not just about the next few bucks they make. I also think that the most successful businesses have grown from the love of what they do and not just the drive for money.

I expect it pisses him off as much as it pisses off people here that would have liked them at cost to hang on their walls. morning all
we do refund sometimes but obviously, when the goods are still in our hands once they're gone, we can do nothing but watch.
it is our rep we try to protect, to the artist - don't want to see eBay flooded with their prints or people pumping up their prices out of their control.
to the customer - who's usually annoyed they have missed out and see it expensive on eBay
also newer customers who just don't understand, we get loads of emails and calls after releases.
on really big ones like sandra/whatson - hundreds.
its a funny old business, but we love it, drives me nuts sometimes but i soon forget and move on to the next work...

Snik π¬π§ Stencil Artists β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by Graffiti Prints on Sept 23, 2016 9:12:38 GMT 1, there's one comment on this thread which rings so true though
I would like to think that some people are in this business for the love of art and not just about the next few bucks they make. I also think that the most successful businesses have grown from the love of what they do and not just the drive for money.
i did not expect to make any money on GP & i mean any for at least 5 years, i had done zerocool for 4 without taking any money inc initial investment, it was tough but good fun esp the shows. i thought i would have a nice inventory of stock etc after 5 years, i did not dream we would sell out most prints.
this changed everything and gave us the opportunity to push the boundaries and do more and more complicated prints but sell them at sane prices. e.g new pez prints x 3, all 21 colour screen prints, editions of 50, 70 x 54cm but only Β£175 each.. we could have giclee but i just could not do it and we took hit as pez wanted small editions
i honestly think we give the best value for money price vs product, way too many people have jumped on the print wagon as they think its a cash cow and quickly realised its a money pit..
so many edition places have popped up but i think it's easy to spot the few who are doing it for the love and not the ego/cash/etc, usually shows in product and prices.
is there not a saying if you do things right and for the love of it, the money follows?
in this business, i think this principle applies massively.

Snik π¬π§ Stencil Artists β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by shygetshigh83 on Sept 23, 2016 10:02:07 GMT 1, It started almost a year ago when someone posted a For Sale Thread and it stated "offers welcome" and than it got worse when another member publicly stated what their PM offers were to start a bidding war and than the slippery slope had begun and it has gotten worse every day since. Β I got a PM's yesterday responding to a Looking to Buy thready I did 2 months ago that said "I have the item you are looking for - how much do you want to pay ? Am I wrong or on Kidrobot forum you are allowed to post in the For Sale thread only if you do post the asking price?.. so this should be a way..

Snik π¬π§ Stencil Artists β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by Dive Jedi on Sept 23, 2016 10:16:21 GMT 1, No idea why I keep defending this guy, but I don't have the idea that he bought this piece with the intention to flip it. It is however not too smart not to realise that a square meter of brass is very heavy to frame.... ( I put that rather kindly, didn't I ?) Since the release price was GPB 500 and shipping was GPB 50 , I would suggest that koen sells his piece to kapusta for GPB 525 plus shipping to USA. This way Koen pays GPB 25 for the lesson that brass is heavy. Kapusta has his beloved piece for a reasonable price. And GP has 2 happy customers. The rest of us can sleep soundly this weekend.
So get this handled allready - I have to manage the rest of the internet now.....

Snik π¬π§ Stencil Artists β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by oxfordwelshchap on Sept 23, 2016 10:27:42 GMT 1, No idea why I keep defending this guy, but I don't have the idea that he bought this piece with the intention to flip it. Yer I agree it would be a strange piece to try and flip. The brass version is stunning so why sell it anyways?
