*Kean Hughes Contemporary Art is launched*, by keanhughes.com on Apr 24, 2007 18:12:35 GMT 1, I'm open to offers on all pieces on the site just as any other gallery would be, just thought i'd make that clear!
My offer prices are still very competitive against many other secondary market art dealers.

Which Audience, the galleries one? If it is you will probably need more than an internet shop window for it. Artists might help for a start...

*Kean Hughes Contemporary Art is launched*, by Strange Al on Apr 24, 2007 18:36:10 GMT 1, What surprises me is not how many of these online "galleries" there are, but actually how few. We all know what the market is currently like and how many people are re-selling/flipping on ebay. It seems like easy money.
Anyone selling a substantial amount of prints in one year is going to have to own up to the tax man. Therefore, there's some advantage in setting up as a "legitimate" business. You pay a lower tax rate on your profits and can set off your costs. Though by going "legit" you're taking on all manner of admnistrative, financial and legal obligations, which I'm sure Hipart and Keane can tell us all about.
Therein also lies the benefit to Joe Public. If things go wrong, consumers buying from a business have far greater legal redress than when buying from an individual (even if it's a private transaction through ebay with paypal). Does this added protection warrant paying twice the amount for a print? I think not, but worth bearing in mind.

I ll be very curious to see if they have set up a structure.
Hipart seems a personal project by the look of : whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=hipartgallery&tld=com
Same goes to KeanHuges : whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=keanhughes&tld=com
As well as of Artopsy : whois.domaintools.com/artopsy.co.uk
...I shall not pass on private information, well public really...

*Kean Hughes Contemporary Art is launched*, by retep on Apr 24, 2007 19:31:31 GMT 1, IMO these online are ridiculous. if you want original art go to blackrat press or (hopefully) stella dore, if you want cheap sold out prints go to ebay, and if you want to get ripped off go to an online gallery. why would you pay a 25%-50% premium to buy from these guys when you can get just as good service from ebay. Obviously theres a few dodgy sellers on ebay, but if you stick to reputible sellers you should not have a problem.
my biggest worry with buying off ebay is packaging because alot of sellers who don't know what they're doing just shove the print in any old tube and hope for the best. however, theres loads of guys selling on ebay who really know what they're doing - I recently bought a print from a guy who sells quite alot of prints in his ebay shop and his packaging was better than any I've see. He went that little bit further to make sure that it was almost impossible for the print to get damaged in transit..

*Kean Hughes Contemporary Art is launched*, by steve on Apr 24, 2007 20:48:36 GMT 1, bottom line is we will provide a professional service, from storage, to communication, to provenance, to delivery, to returns & refunds policy.
many of our prints are NOT available on ebay by the way....a point that appears to have gone unnoticed. ( we also have a very diverse bunch of artists as you can see. loving amy sol and audrey kawasaki particularly at the moment. love many POW artists but theres more to life.) those prints that are on the bay, are NOT always greatly different in price if you care to compare. there are exceptions of course, but as i've said ebay isn't our price comparison vehicle. if there are people who prefer to purchase from business websites rather than ebay that's just the way it is....opus did alright with their micallefs, and they weren't his publisher!
once again...offers are welcome on all our available works :-)
online galleries would love to work directly with the artists (good luck stella by the way) and we are actually working on that at the moment......some established and many unknown....early days... as miss carpenter once said.... "we've only just begun"

An example: Artopsy has the Baldwn Politics print at 475. They are on the bay for BIN 310. I sold one to a forum member for 250. Similar deals can be found from Nuart (re his Applause for sale) as well as swaps.
For the record my site doesn't have a single Balwwn print on it, nor do I own one....

You don't have to buy from them. The country's full of high street galleries and these are the same but without the tacky framing service and the Jack Vettriano prints. Some will get bored and vanish, some will take up and champion some struggling artists, others will milk the Banksy market until the bubble bursts. I love art and I actually like the way it is changing. A few years ago I wandered round dusty old galleries, now I sit in my lounge and look at the world's galleries. Surely that can only be a good thing. Live and let live. Now where's my wine?..

i expect youll find all these guys sold on ebay previously, and like someone else said they have gone legit and want to look more professional, if they can sell at those prices then good luck, if they don't then they will soon drop the prices, as you all know there more than a little room for movement.
to buy our beloved prints nowadays you need eiher time or money, or both. to constantly scour ebay for a good deal takes time, the busy guys out there earning rediculous amount of money in the city etc don't have time to watch out for the next release from black rat press and the like. So there will be a market for these guys and their online gallery, its convienince shopping for art buyers.
The market is fairly new and its exciting times, it will evolve, level, explode whatever , but at the end of the day how many pictures can you have on your wall, people are moaning and groaning about this and that and then storing there print in their a1 folder(me included) i have more pictures framed than i have wall space. i have had pictures facing the wall since christmas.
the biggest mistake and the only thing these guys have done wrong is posting on here plugging their sites, trying to get a free add, their market is not here, and they need to work that out. Its out there...

I could start an online gallery tomorrow, as could many forum members with the knowledge on art we have and the contacts of where to buy the stuff. Why dont we? not sure really maybe we should, then you may see some real art (Old classic stuff) rather than the stuff that has been realesed in the last 6 months that every other person is trying to sell on the bay. All IMO of course

In order to make any headway you need to source artists who are not currently represented but who have talent and be prepared for a lomg hard slog. Anyone can source through ebay and stick 40 percent on top and call themselves a gallery.
