Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by 11 on Mar 30, 2017 0:48:51 GMT 1, 11 those are superb pics, thank you. I really like the artist who does the zebra pieces.
Much appreciated doyle
That artist is Khaled Hourani and it is titled 'Zebra' - I will try and go through them all and attribute artist names as soon as I can
The other gallery Is dedicated to a single artist, Anisa Ashkar

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Daniel Silk on Mar 30, 2017 2:33:52 GMT 1, Can I ask that some of you just chill out a bit please so many posts picking at other peoples comments and opinions, rather than actually saying anything about the thread subject. Maybe those members could try blocking the people's posts you don't like reading? Then the rest of us don't need to read the sarcastic replies.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by lucky7 on Mar 30, 2017 3:27:45 GMT 1, This is part of the reason why I question the whole execution and ultimate motivation. Banksy could easily highlight these artists on a world scale by simply giving more information on the works and local artists. He could post one a week on his instagram. He could release prints in the online shop. Yet the only people exposed are those that visit in person. Cool to have a gallery show for the artists but true advocacy and awareness for the artist could be so much more. So your not talking hype or flipping your now talking marketing..... It's art, all you have to do is look at it, go on try it, it's not hard.
Why do you think Banksy opened a gallery with the hotel? If it is to promote or help artists, it seems there'd be better ways to do it, I don't know.
Or should the public just take the gallery at face value and not question it? I'm not saying you are wrong or that it should not be questioned. It's just that the reason escapes me and intrigues me. Maybe murrke has similar queries.
I also don't understand if you are criticizing marketing, hype and promotion when it seems to me Banksy is precisely a great promoter (his biggest strength imo).
Or is all this discussion coming from prior bad blood between you two?
I'm seriously lost and want to understand the points everyone is making.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by lucky7 on Mar 30, 2017 3:52:30 GMT 1, As of now I tend to dislike the gallery and don't understand it. But I don't mind if it's a mistake, nothing is perfect. Also I don't have enough info for a fair opinion.
If I were FORCED to come up with a hypothesis, I'd say B wanted to showcase palestinian artists, then discovered there wasn't enough subtance or genius, but couldn't back off now (hopes had been raised). So he let the show go on but not put in extra effort, laissez faire.

As others have said, the question is why has the gallery not been promoted online better with more photos and explanations of the art, plus the ability to but the originals and prints online.
A couple of collaboration pieces between Banksy the Palestinian artists would have kicked things of nice

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by ricardob on Mar 30, 2017 5:59:12 GMT 1, Is there a fancy hotel in New York or somewhere with Basquiat paintings? Maybe it's simply taking this piss out of those super expensive hotels, with a fake painting?
When I read the name of the hotel - Walled off -, the first thing that came to mind was the Waldorf Astoria New York. Did anyone think the same?

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by mojo on Mar 30, 2017 8:43:20 GMT 1, I think it's worth considering how difficult it would have been to actually get the hotel open, bare in mind we are talking Palestine here not London, New York or LA and you can't just nip down to B&Q or Homebase or whatever the US equivalent is, whenever you need materials. When I visited in 2007 the first thing I noticed was the contrast between the modern buildings and lush vegetation on one side of the wall compared to the piles of rubble and general decay on the Palestinian side. I'm not sure what the situation is right now although I know a few years back no building materials were allowed into Palestine. Getting things both in and out of Palestine, including the actual people that live there is a nightmare to say the least. Remember Palestine is the worlds largest 'open prison', and millions of Palestinians still live in refugee camps. The actual logistics of an 'online gallery' with regular print releases and sending books all over the globe may simply not be possible....absolutely everything is thoroughly scrutinized and monitored by the Israili border police. The very fact that Banksy has even managed to open a hotel there is quite frankly mind blowing. As others have already said on here, I personally believe the whole point is to encourage people to visit, not just to buy 'stuff' but to experience first hand the conditions and restrictions placed upon the Palestinian people and their struggle to be accepted as equals within the global community. People that stamp their feet and throw their toys out the pram just cause they can't get a pdf of the artworks currently on display at the Walled Off or a print/book/postcard are the very people that should be going.....its a very humbling experience and could open your eyes to a very different 'lifestyle' that others have to endure and how they do so with such dignity and grace.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Dr Plip on Apr 5, 2017 17:21:05 GMT 1, If Banksy covered the entire partition wall with quality stencil art, do you think art wranglers would turn up and "rescue" the entire wall? Take it away to protect it from damage?
Trump should buy it.
Anyway, I look forward to a continued existence, with a chance to see more of the hotel, as and when others take that opportunity.
I sadly have to live vicariously through others more flighty than myself.
Much love though x

This thread is going days without mention. I was blasted for being critical about its exposure to those not able to visit and it be a negative to the work.
I was told it only just opened and to relax. It's now open and nothin new for days, no new information on local artists. Quite disappointing.

Shame right. Like I said. One of banksys biggest works yet no discussion. What's the deal?
