Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by daveyuk on Mar 7, 2017 15:40:17 GMT 1, I might have blown my chances of a secret ridiculous Ebay bargain completely but what do members think of this canvas going for a song with what looks like a genuine Pest Control COA ....?
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112324453307?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I've asked seller to post pics of the back. No reply. I've asked what his concerns about its provenance are. No reply. I've asked how long he'd had it and where did it come from. No reply.
They say if it looks too good to be true...
what do you think?

Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by WILLYBKLN on Mar 7, 2017 16:00:40 GMT 1, This statement on the post throws a red flag? -- As I am actually no real banksy expert I cannot guarantee 100% authenticity. That is why I didn't marked it as original here. Please see the pictures of the artwork and the COA that comes with to form yourself an opinion. If possible for you (location of the item is Germany) please make an appointment for an on-site inspection.

Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by Harveyn on Mar 7, 2017 17:05:11 GMT 1, Given the sales approach you would imagine this has to be a fake. That said it has to be a concern as to how good a fake this is both from the canvas and COA perspective.
Would anyone really sell a ยฃ70/90k canvas by Banksy on Ebay these days?
The seller needs to be able to confirm to any potential buyer the number of the canvas and the ownership details with PC to allow a quick check to be performed with PC.
I doubt you will have enough time to do that now should they answer. That said you could bid and then hold them ransom for that information prior to making the payment.

Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by Harveyn on Mar 7, 2017 17:14:24 GMT 1, Price has shot up to ยฃ50k and its a Private listing - bidder identity protected. That always concerns me.
That said the seller has 100% feedback since 2001.
I would avoid for sure at this price now. No real bargain to be had and to high risk without more information.

Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by Deleted on Mar 7, 2017 17:28:12 GMT 1, The image in the frame I have seen before when I was looking for my HW to be fair.
The size of the frame stuck out.... he could of got this image from somewhere else though.
I think with a transaction of this size you would be well protected by ebay / paypal who would probably get involved pre money transfer.

Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by cyberkid on Mar 7, 2017 17:32:04 GMT 1, how can somebody bid 50k if the seller wrote "I cannot guarantee 100% authenticity"...?! its a private auction without return of the item. the seller is 100% safe.
they are so many versions of the elephant in the market - facing left, facing right, diff. sizes, editions, unique, coloured pieces etc...without PC confirmation a big risk !
crazy bidder !

Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by Deleted on Mar 7, 2017 20:06:38 GMT 1, I assume the one for sale on eb ay was sprayed with the same stencil as the one for sale by Laz.
www.lazinc.com/artist/banksy/original-art/377,heavy-weaponry
As comparing the photos of the one on ebay it looks like the same stencil was used but the one for sale on ebay, the elephants tail looks too fat, also compared with others from 2004.
The COA in the ebay pics, the elephant is not in the middle of the embossed stars. I don't know if it is the same in other COA's from authentic ones.
I'm not saying this is the case but it is not hard to cut a stencil from very good scans or photos of an original HW painting on canvas and to obtain exactly the same stretched canvas also easy.
www.lazinc.com/content/images/art/banksy/2004/original/heavy-weaponry-8749.jpg
Also the doubt as to authenticity has covered the seller in the listing description should this one turn out to be moody.
It's surely not hard to get POW to confirm it's authenticity before listing it for sale or also someone like Laz would know too.

That wasn't my quote lol, that was taken off of the eBay listing. I'd say stay away, remember, caveat emptor.

Heavy Weaponry canvas - real or not , by Hubble Bubble on Mar 8, 2017 11:22:20 GMT 1, I don't quite understand all of this although I've not looked too closely. If the COA and canvas are genuine, the seller says 'the COA and canvas are genuine' and it's priced accordingly. If they are not genuine, then look for the seller to make some kind of 'I'm not sure, buy at your own risk' statement. Which is exactly what seems to be the case here. For me, the words 'very long barge pole' spring to mind. (with apologies to forum members not educated in the ways of English colloquialisms).
