They were sold so in my mind you had absolutely no right whatsoever to do this - It is incredibly poor form to refund the original buyer and sell them again and as for prior reference, you are only ever as good as your last deal .......I'm afraid what you have done far outweighs anything that could have put you in good standing.
Our word is all we have, if people cannot take you at your word then you cannot be trusted

What you should have done was go to the buyer explain the situation and ask permission to cancel the deal. Even then if he did agree he should have got first refusal at the higher price. If the situation was reveresed how would you expect to be treated?
Being a man of your word is easy until it becomes inconvenient/financially detrimental that's when you really find out if you are. The answer is clear for everyone to see. Why not put this right? It's not too late to do things properly.
