Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by dave313perry on Aug 7, 2007 16:58:33 GMT 1, Nobody is making me buy it but for me its guilty until proved innocent as im not going to pay 100+ for a photocopy!! and all the evidence i can see points exactly to that,
my advice would be just to enjoy your image as i imagion the fakes will never be seperated from the real prints anyway!
Peace

I've bought one from a none plumplumboom seller and I also was stupid enough to be given one by greenpeace in the first place and misplace it (I think I was just miffed that they folded such a nice picture and therefore lost interest in keeping it). I'm pretty sure I've got an original or an exact copy. If anyone wants to bring a plumplumboom version into the eine show i would be happy to make a comparison.

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by WillSaint on Dec 28, 2007 22:58:44 GMT 1, You won't believe this but;
When I worked at Greenpeace in 2002, I was in charge of distribution of these Banksy designed posters and stickers and the additional A4/A3campaign stencil (which contrary to popular belief Banksy didn't design) There was a room full of these posters about 30, 000 in all folded in four. There were some unfolded and about 100 laminated versions too.
Seriously we were trying to get rid of them before the Disney lawyers came knocking on the door. I don't even have a single copy for myself.
By the way does anyone have the original 'Save o Delete' stencil? It was produced in A4 and A3 size, with the pieces kiss cut, so you could pop out the pieces and stencil. About 25,000 - 30,000 were inserted into Dazed and Confused or The Face (I can;t remember). When people used the stencil they would send the picture back to me.

I've been there for a glastonbury festival fundraising meeting. Are you the volunteer dude that ran the stall in islington design center that had s**t loads of save and deletes on the desk?
PS were they all folded at the printers or did you have lots of unfolded ones?

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by Happy Shopper on Jan 3, 2008 11:47:43 GMT 1, Just got one on ebay. It's unfolded, and looks like an inkjet print on thick paper, and it's matt (not glossy). The outlines of the characters are slightly blurred.
This looks like a fake to me, but I heard the original was quite poorly printed.
Any thoughts ?

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by Agent Provocateur on Jan 7, 2008 16:45:50 GMT 1, as a graphic designer who deals with print work all the time... and also an original movie poster collector i thought i'd add my two penneth worth here. a friend of mine just bought a 'flat' a3 'save or delete' poster for £25 (aprrox.) on ebay. i saw it on saturday for the first time and it was catergoricaly (ignore my bad spelling!) an inkjet print. having read this thread before seeing his print i got the impression the originals that came from greenpeace were professionaly printed on an offset litho machine and then folded twice on a finishing machine (i can't believe greenpeace printed 1,000's on an inkjet printer). the colours seemed bleached slightly and the overall image was slightly blurry.
so, if they were printed professionaly (using four different plates; cyan, magenta, yellow and black) if you look really closely at the poster you should see a very subtle pattern of shapes in the colours, so that when each colour is overlayed the patterns allow different amounts of ink to show through from below. trying to scan this in and print out a batch as fakes (to a good quality) is very hard as the patterns in the colours of the original will also be scanned, so when printed again with a new computer generated pattern you will get what it called a moire effect. one simple way of getting round this is to subtly blur the image once it has been scanned in to get rid of the original pattern... aka a blurry print!
sorry for the long post... but one final thing came to mind. in the film poster collecting world there lots and lots of 'fakes' being sold. the interesting point is that before 1987 (approx.!!!) 99% of film posters were folded, but still people are producing fakes of them and then folding them. what i have found out from more learned people than myself is it is quite easy to tell a hand folded poster from a machine folded poster. the machine folded posters will be sharp, crisp and straight, on the other hand if someone has faked the posters and folded them themselves the fold will be less crisp and probably slightly uneven.
ok, ok, i know... i'm stopping. but i hope that may add some more grist to this threads mill!!!!

Take this is as a word of advice. Greenpeace always use recycled paper.

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by snare on Jan 11, 2008 13:03:02 GMT 1, I bought a large, unfolded one off an eBay seller who has never sold another one before or since. Paid £30 for it.
It has a black line around the bottom of the image, alomst like a kind of shadow, that doesnt go all the way around as if it was a 'frame'.
I wonder if this be an indication that it is a copy?
Any thoughts anyone?

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by Gurn on Jan 11, 2008 14:30:40 GMT 1, I guess that we will never be 100% sure on this one but anyone buying off of the bay would be wise to take onboard Finsburyparkranger's comment, and having read agentprovocateur's input and taking mine(which is folded) from its sleeve for closer inspection,I am still none the wiser However if you like the image, thats all that really matters, just really depends on how much money you are prepared to chance on it.

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by angryboy on Jul 4, 2008 14:34:20 GMT 1, I believe there's loads of fakes about.
We used to have an original stuck on the wall with blue tack a few years back, didn't even bother taking it down when we moved.
They're quite cool though just a thin paper poster type thing.
At most it was A3.

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by Wearology on Jul 4, 2008 14:58:25 GMT 1, There is no way to tell if it is real or fake - I have one on my wall hanging next to some unique street art and the Greenpeace always gets oohs and ahhhhs - the piece is great and you will love it - buy it - it's flipping capabilities are limited - if your buying as an investment think of it like buying the banksy with all the soupcans on it - the story went that Disney contacted Greenpeace and than Laz and told them to stop using their characters without permission so only a limited number were ever in circulation - but it seems like they are always available on the bay anywhere from 2 pounds the 25 pounds - just my 2 cents I am the same guys that owns a lot of 12 inch vinyls with apes on them

Banksy • Save or Delete Poster • Greenpeace , by WillSaint on Jul 4, 2008 17:17:17 GMT 1, Maybe I can help here: I was working with this campaign with Greenpeace when they were made. I fact it was my job to distribute them around the UK. Approx 25,000 A2 posters (folded) were printed. About 50 or so were special laminated (unfolded versions). So if you get a Greenpeace poster and it doesn't have folds, I'd be suspicious.
There were about 10,000 A4 stencils printed on to card with a 32 piece kiss cut stencil. (not by Banksy, designed by Third Planet) Some were distributed and others were inserted into The Face magazine.
There were about 500 or more A3 versions of this stencil that were used by activists like myself to decorate London. Here's one of mine
Triva time: On the stencil printed in the corner it says, 'Send your photos of stencils to Will St Leger, Greenpeace, Canonnbury Villas, London'. I got nicked one night spraying it in Notting Hill. But got of with a Police caution.
