Felipe Pantone ๐ฆ๐ท Exhibition News โข Contemporary Art , by Happy Shopper on Jun 2, 2017 9:47:29 GMT 1, I'm very torn about these... I liked the look of the black and white one at first glance, as I thought it was a distorted portrait... and the silver will look nice. But then, lurking in the back of my head, is the thought that these are just splashes of paint and why would I hang that on my wall!? And not far off ยฃ1000!!

I think the black and white will look awesome on the wall in the right spot though and I do see it as a distorted portrait.
They are expensive though... I'm justifying that by the fact that I haven't bought anything for a long time and have sold/am selling 4 dirty funker rat records which should just about cover it!
And as for why hang just "splashes of paint" on the wall, ask any museum with a Pollock...

I'm with you. I could get a very good original painting by a less well known artist for that price. These are good, but not for me.

But why not splash your own paint on a canvas? I'm not sure what the point of these works are, other than aesthetically pleasing?
I'm all about Abstract Expressionism, but can we call these that in 2017? Probably a discussion for another thread.

Felipe Pantone ๐ฆ๐ท Exhibition News โข Contemporary Art , by maxamaxa2 on Jun 2, 2017 11:03:48 GMT 1, Im on the same note here with the splash of paint feeling but I think its grounded in the change they have done on instagram past half year or so.
Earlier it felt like Katrin was testing a lot and did put a lot of time and effort to get the "right splash", making art with heart and passion which does justifies the prices.
With this new "fredriksworkshop" it seems that they are a big team producing paintings in an industrial way and tempo which makes the art feel less special and less personal.
I think this is only a misunderstanding due to their quite bad media strategy with the instagram feeds thou. They sure are beautiful and would look great on the wall if the printing is good on these!

I'm afraid it's originals only and there is already a long waiting list (granny, grandad, Aunty Joyce, Uncle Peter, the list goes on...)

Of course I'm biased toward her work and AbEx in general, but if you ever get the chance to see one of her OGs in person, you'd be shocked to see how much activity and detail goes in to her unique work. To be honest anyone who's criticism of abstract art is "just splashes of paint" can go sit with the "my kid could do that" group and have a circle jerk of tired ideas
And of course, buying paint and throwing it at a canvas will never get you the result you see on KFs work, or Pollocks.
My main beef with these is that the quality looks like the last Laz release which is a poor rendition of the OGs, so easy pass for me.
I am also not too impressed by her workshop thing, seems like a machine to churn out enormous quantities of work compared to the past...not sure that is such a good thing

Just to be clear, my comment above that these are a pass for me are not on the basis that they are splashes of paint. Anyone reading my comments about the recent RA abstract expressionism exhibition would know that that is not my opinion. My reason for passing is that for ยฃ700 plus vat plus shipping plus framing cost, I could instead by a spectacular original by (at that price not even) an up and coming artist.

My reason for passing is that for ยฃ700 plus vat plus shipping plus framing cost, I could instead by a spectacular original by (at that price not even) an up and coming artist. This was absolutely not pointing at you Coach. Just a general comment that "throwing paint" was never an apt criticism of Abstract art, whether it be KF's or any other artist's.
I also loved the RA show, lucky I am local, so went 4 times. Went initially all giddy to see the Rothkos, but the two massive Pollocks just blew me away (not that the Guggenheim one is aesthetically pleasing to me, but it is so fascinating to see the context and piece by which he discovered his style).
Also one of the best show catalogues of all times.
As for the price of these two prints, my take would be to seriously encourage anyone going for both (+ shipping + framing) to consider saving for a small OGs on reflective paper instead (the A4 size ones go for circa 2600ยฃ). They are sold framed and much better than both of these I would say

She has her own personal IG account too. Is there information that a team is executing her ideas? Even if so, is that so highly unusual? As for output, she is catering for demand, which is high, her work is liked by a large cross section.

You raise a good point. The way the comments are written on the IG posts gives the impression that here is a team painting pieces in the studio. Maybe that's not the case and just her painting ?

Maybe, but think people are mis-reading or over analysing her IG descriptions, and there is no evidence or information to support either way, so we can only start from the basis that she is responsible for all the work.
