Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Pattycakes on Dec 6, 2017 13:01:35 GMT 1, Like I've said before placement is the key to winning at auction.
Think about it where would you rather sell your Banksy? In a sale dedicated to the artist, which will have all the houses advertising spend dedicated toward promoting one artist and therefore attracting all the Banksy collectors and people looking for his work.
Or in a multi artist sale, where they are amongst 100+ other things, more often than not which have nothing to do with Banksy, that they auction house is also desperate to promote and sell?
I'm not saying the Bonham's sale is bad, far from it there is some cracking things in that sale, but I'd always favour a theme sale to a general one.
breezied is correct, Forum have had some stellar Banksy results over the past year - that is for a reason, they actively promote themselves as the go to auction house for Banksy editions, and for collectors who are not on the forums and so forth they look to who has the name for selling a particular artist, it's a clever strategy, and clearly it works. Sotheby's London do the same with Warhol prints, and have done for the past 15 years, their results are considerably better than others for Warhol for this reason (compare Sotheby's London Warhol print results with Christie's London print results - it makes for very interesting reading)

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by artforartssake on Dec 7, 2017 19:48:16 GMT 1, Fascinating condition reports. Considering the number of people still claiming to have 'mint' prints (especially when selling), everything in the sale has at least some kind of blemish!

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by breezied on Dec 9, 2017 22:07:35 GMT 1, I do wonder with sales dedicated to one artist, I remember the Hirst sale a few years ago, massively hyped, turned out a bit of an anti-climax with many pieces 'allegedly' bought back to avoid too much embarassment.

Forum Auctions โข Banksy Marketplace ๐ฌ๐ง, by Dexter Bulldog on Dec 10, 2017 14:51:26 GMT 1, I know the premise of low estimates create interest and involvement. What happens with high estimates? Does that detract from people being involved? I just cant wrap my head around that orange CYW estimate. If it comes in much lower or doesnt reach a reserve, does this blow up in their face as supposed banksy experts?

Does that detract from people being involved? I just cant wrap my head around that orange Choose Your Weapon estimate. If it comes in much lower or doesnt reach a reserve, does this blow up in their face as supposed banksy experts? It's impossible to say with any certainty. A high estimate might suggest that the house wanted the piece and bowed to the consignor with a hefty reserve. That or the house did a favor for a friend or perhaps to win other consignments. There are countless reasons why a house might reach on any individual lot at any time and one would need to be privy to the private deal of each lot to truly understand. Hell, the house might have hated negotiation with this particular consignment and agreed to accept it with the high reserve and held steadfast to any buy-in fees to the consignor should it fail to hammer which would in effect stick it to them. Regardless, it's rare as you noted because the knee jerk reaction is to question the house and generally the primary houses avoid such a scenario.
