Why 1xRun is a Scam, by docean on Aug 13, 2017 3:40:33 GMT 1, So 1xRun has a ton of prints on their site, and overall they're pretty affordable. Every week they post about a special archive access with certain prints available for only a certain period of time at huge "discounts."
However, I've been tracking the prices of certain pieces to see if we're really getting a deal, and have seen regular prices fluctuate WILDLY.
For instance, a print could be $150 retail (no noticeable sale going on) yet this weekend when they offer "40% off" I saw the price spike to over $300. Net result = you end up paying virtually the same price (in some instances more)
Do they think we're stupid? If you're going to jack up prices just so you can pretend you're having a sale, don't bother doing it at all and insulting the art community.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by J0NNY on Aug 13, 2017 4:44:57 GMT 1, Yeah they always seem to put only one / two prints left on the page too.I cancelled an order because of this and won't go back. Retail is very poor in Australia but the one thing they do well is monitor the price jacking practice. Doesn't quite stop it happening but it helps.
They should stop releasing s**tty prints of donuts riding Harley's into fire pits of skulls and zombies with their tits out every single day and concentrate on quality and customer service more.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by natstan on Aug 13, 2017 4:45:51 GMT 1, Bought a couple of prints from them in the past. Most of their releases are just digital prints, where quality is just average at best. Never felt the justification to pay for many of the stuff on their site, no matter how much I like the image or how 'low' the prices are.
But then again, many people buy prints just for the signature and edition number these days...

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by docean on Aug 13, 2017 4:48:32 GMT 1, Just found another one. Print is usually $45, they have it listed at $100. So your "40% off" is actually a 33% increase.
Would much rather give my business to respectable businesses.

Quality-wise I have had mixed luck. A few prints have been stellar. Others, not so much.
Either way, I'm out on 1xRun going forward.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by mrmayface on Aug 13, 2017 4:51:29 GMT 1, I just wish they'd run that 40 or 50 percent off sale on some of their original work. I get what you're saying though. I've noticed a lot of prices have risen.

Businesses tend to surreptitiously raise prices during sales, so you end up paying more when you think you're paying less. Amazon, for instance, is pretty well-known for their "dynamic pricing model" - essentially a euphemism for "price-jacking".

I don't think anyone does it quite to the degree of 1xRun. I use a browser extension to check historical pricing on Amazon when I order things and have never seen more than a 20% variance (and even that would be much higher than the average I see). 1xRun we're talking 100%+ hikes

They had them nice Jago prints last year, but I haven't really paid much attention since then.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by mercboy on Aug 13, 2017 8:02:39 GMT 1, In defense on 1XRun. I have had great relations with the guys there, and scored some great deals on both prints and originals. Sometimes I have noticed a sharp price hike during archive sales- easy to get caught up in a snap decision- but to call it a scam goes a little far I think. I'm pretty sure they have the ability to print in a variety of techniques, including digital printing if requested by the artist. I thought it was common practice for galleries to raise prices on archived artwork. Amplifier was just selling the last few signed we the people print sets for $1500. They were only $300 on relaease thats a 500% increase in like 3 months- Granted thats a charity.

Yeah but they're not trying to pretend they're having a sale. 1xRun purposely misleads people in order to boost their sales. It's dishonest. All of the prints I'm talking about have already been archived, but given the size of the "sale discount" they jack up the original price accordingly.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by nobokov on Aug 13, 2017 13:57:31 GMT 1, I've purchased a few prints from them over the years and have always been pleased with the results.Customer service has always been good and they never make a stink when I cancel orders.
But thanks for posting this, it'll definitely cause me to be more diligent in reviewing prices if I ever come across anything that I want to buy from them in the future.

Really! I bought my 1st print from them back in 2015 & I've never noticed that those sales sometimes includes originals. Although I really haven't been ready to buy originals until recently. I have noticed on the last few archived sales that it was clearly stated they didn't include originals.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by loother on Aug 13, 2017 18:02:35 GMT 1, I've bought one thing from 1xRun. The pricing is a mess, and not entirely honest. You've just got to bide your time and be conscious of how they run things, and wait for whatever you want to pop up at a price you consider fair, but avoiding the place entirely is probably easiest. That being said, I was very happy with the print when it arrived, and though as a hand-finished screenprint there shouldn't have been much tax to be paid, they had handily declared it at a low value. So I'd give the place a cautious thumbs slightly up.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by gmidd on Aug 13, 2017 18:55:02 GMT 1, I've been buying from them for years and while the pricing on the archive sales is definitely sketchy, they do still put out some quality pieces at decent prices. Why 1xRun is a Scam, by gmidd on Aug 14, 2017 15:16:23 GMT 1, I want a decent Ricky Powell from them, I find the place hard to get my head round though. They have releases pretty much everyday Monday through Thursday at 12:00 PM EST that they keep up for 15 days I believe or until they sell out. That's about the only time I purchase from them. Like others have said the archive sales can be a bit of a mess and they do jack up prices before offering the discounts, so I generally avoid those. However, I have managed to pick up a couple of pieces from the archive sales in the past for near original cost, so I suppose they aren't all bad. If you can get past the shady tactics used with the archive sales, they're actually a pretty solid gallery to purchase from. They currently have a new Ricky Powell book for sale that they released last week and they have some available in sets with small prints for not a bad price: www.1xrun.com/exhibitions/ricky-powell-the-individualist&ref=ps.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by aml on Aug 14, 2017 15:21:55 GMT 1, Meh. Most of what they release is of little interest to me. I considered a Nychos original from them years ago, but that has been it.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by gmidd on Aug 14, 2017 15:33:47 GMT 1, I can see why people avoid them. They do work with some solid artists though. Here are a few that I've purchased works from over the years: Ben Frost, Mr Jago, OakOak, Ron English, Meggs, Ricky Lee Gordon, Bask, Cope2, Saner, Brendan Monroe, Icy & Sot, Rone, Mear One, Saber, Dalek, Cyrcle, Above, Copyright, Cryptik, Sainer, Ricky Powell, Fintan Magee, Kevin Peterson, Audrey Kawasaki, Millo, Defer, Dee Dee, etc.
