Would love to know more about Eyestorm. I thought they were reputable. What evidence is there to the contrary? Sorry if this has been discussed previously, I'm just hearing this for the first time. Thanks.

Damien Hirst, Valium, by Pattycakes on Mar 7, 2011 20:41:51 GMT 1, well possibly, I couldn't comment on that. They do however have a dossier supplied by Science which indicates exactly what is wrong with the fakes that were produced. Since they were the publishers they do the authentication on them. Though I am sure Science would look at things too if asked.

Damien Hirst, Valium, by debaser on Mar 8, 2011 12:15:00 GMT 1, remarkable that printguru could tell this is possibly a fake from such poor photographs posted, although the quality of the photos rung alarm bells for me, also the print laid out on the floor was enough to put me off.

Damien Hirst, Valium, by redfred on Mar 8, 2011 12:16:52 GMT 1, I think printguru should be commended for speaking up as he obviousely knows a lot more about the subject than most of us do, if I was jepps and had cast iron proof it was legit then I would be screaming my head off but all quiet so far! I hope printguru is wrong but I have an uneasy feeling he is'nt.

Eyestorm can verify yes or no.
If it is fake, I would like to buy it for a fair price it as I like the image (cant justify a real one!!).

As stated on the other thread. The specific reasons are often kept under wraps to not help out forgers. The same is true in record collecting when people bootleg records.

Damien Hirst, Valium, by redfred on Mar 8, 2011 14:47:17 GMT 1, The only thing I know about these were that the signatures were prone to fading which is why you see some with a very light signature, Hirst had to resign many that were returned to Eyestorm, the one on offer here has a bold signature which would suggest that it has been resigned therefore the owner should have documentation to cover this or it has been forged.

Damien Hirst, Valium, by gibbin82 on Mar 8, 2011 15:41:54 GMT 1, hi all.. great thanks for the big interest this tread has in the last few days. I like a good discussion, but where are we when there is no argument. this is a old story about the ed from 2000, and a lot of people like to see blood when especially these print comes up. just google it I was also in doubt when I bought it time back, but I lucky to have a friend in Bruun Rasmussen auction House who help me out. He have a friend in the same company how have been in contact with some of the imitations there was years back. He told my friend what he could look after before a trade But any way I bought It from a trusted gallery I have the COA, and even the original shipping paper from Eyestorm I know the pic are in bad quality, but I only have a iphone 3gs right now I was in contact with eyestorm when I bought it time back, they don`t want to help with any thing only to make a second hand deal with them.. 11000 right on
You seem quite at ease with all of the claims of this print being a fake, you must be very sure it is genuine. Bearing in mind that these fakes have even fooled Sothebys, if it was mine I would now be very worried. Maybe if you posted a couple of pictures of your COA and proof of purchase it would stop all of the concern that people have on here about this and fill them with as much confidence as you have.

Damien Hirst, Valium, by Pattycakes on Mar 8, 2011 23:37:18 GMT 1, I've not written for a while deliberately as I wanted to see what Jepp returned with. I am not saying he's doing anything wrong, but clearly he's not following protocol. So below I am posting exactly what Science prescribes for the Valium print. I do this because I do not want anyone to get done over on this forum - frankly it's better this info is out there than not in my opinion.
so:
Fake Valium Warning signs:
Fakes on Fujifilm FujiColour Crystal Archive Paper
Fakes with very Narrow Margins (i.e. no margins around image edges)
Fakes are usually numbered often from 3 i.e. XXX digits out of 500
Numbering on fakes is written XXX/500
real should be written XXX 500
fakes with a small "lazy" signature
Fakes colour issue with two dots (I will not reveal these colours or positions)
Ok that's it. I am not writing how a real one should appear, but I hope that this information closes this issue.
I do this not to disappoint one person, but to save one or many a lot of Β£.

Damien Hirst, Valium, by shakey1181 on Mar 9, 2011 9:00:05 GMT 1, Really interesting thread, I've always assumed (perhaps giving forgers too much credit) that they might actually get hold of an original, use a bit of quality control and make them look indistinguishable (sp?). something like the layout of the numbering is such a fundamental error surely? especially when you consider the amount of money that these go for.

Can you clarify the Fuji Archive paper point?
I thought the real ones are done on Fuji Archive?
OP - I would buy this for a cheap price (I will write fake across the back, but love the image).
