Not great for us Brits at 2 in the morning half a sleep.

I think you will be very lucky to find someone selling it at twice the original price. The ones that are on Ebay are almost ten times the original price, crazy...

Maybe can get the brolly or the tote bag with that money on the bay for the girl instead. I doubt I have seen more expensive brollies in my life but I seldom care about a brolly anyways...

oh and a brolly, loads like that around central London. I could get some big bird ones printed with stupid ears and sell them in Fiji for 10,000HK?

Kaws BFF, by Howard Johnson on Jul 5, 2016 18:40:26 GMT 1, For some reason I don't understand the popularity of KAWS or alot of artists like Koons Balloon Dog. What's the appeal? Not trying to instigate, just trying to understand.... Both Kaws and Koons fall into the post-pop category. To understand their artwork I'd advise you first study up on the pop movement and its themes and influences. Most of which boil down to the exploration of americana and elevation of typically "low" forms of artwork. Artists like koons and kaws are in the same vein but represent an evaluation of those themes. For Koons, its the exploration of the banality of american culture and the appreciation of such. For kaws, its the exploration of illustration specifically and the merger of consumerism and high art.
Both these artists have their own distinct visual language. Their work can be enjoyed simply because its quite pleasant to look at, but also a quite interesting evaluation of the artwork that came before it.

Perhaps what puzzles me is why these 'artists' need to 'explore' the same themes over their entire careers. Are they really exploring ideas, or merely creating a product that consumers will purchase over and over? When I think of the word (artist), I think of one who uses their creativity to express something through a medium. Creativity seems to relate having original ideas. Is an artwork still original or 'art' if that initial idea is constantly repeated?

Kaws BFF, by nobokov on Jul 5, 2016 23:53:24 GMT 1, I think of it as the glamorization of "pop culture" - in essence it's celebrating mass kitsch and elevating it to a fine art level. In that sense it's kind of a populist thing. But on the other hand this "populist" art really has become nothing more than another toy for the rich to buy and sell. Personally I don't usually like what the masses like - and therefore pop art and post pop art etc. isn't usually my favorite. But yes, I do kind of like Kaws ... to a degree. But what elevates it to fine art level? Is it only that buyers are accepting the items as 'fine art' or does the artist exhibit a specialized skill that elevates it? If consumers accepted Elmo and the Cookie Monster as fine art, does that make it so? Are KAWS or Koons more technically skilled than Jim Henson or did they just use a different approach to marketing their products?
Still not trying to instigate, really just trying to understand with my feeble mind....

Yes, it's a bit strange, I didn't get any email yet confirming the shipment (I was also expecting August), but the SMS I received had a link to DHL Global Payment Portal + a tracking code. And from that link, I could see that the custom fees were related to a plush/toy and the sender is from Hong Kong.

Kaws BFF, by honestcrooks on Jul 7, 2016 13:07:28 GMT 1, They got sold by Colette yesterday in-store and online. I was at work when they released and some colleagues and I thought it be fun to try our luck. We went online, each of us had one in our cart and we were ready to pay, until we all noticed the price: 400€ for a plush! We had a good laugh, closed our computers and went for a pizza. If was fun though... I understand that it's all about marketvalue and stuff, but let's be honest, with Kaws slapping his name on everything wit a bit of value, it starts to get ridiculous (imo at least) He has nice imagery, but it has to stop somewhere... No? :-)
