UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by cjwhitey on Jan 12, 2018 21:05:23 GMT 1, I see a bunch of different sites offering the Gerhard Richter offset lithographic print "1025 Colors (1025 Farben)" for varying prices. It is around $250 on most sites and is an edition of 500. Could this be the mystery find??

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Jan 12, 2018 21:28:38 GMT 1, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE BUYING
- Artist: Gerhard Richter
- Image: Various
- Edition: 500 / unsigned (each image)
- Price: 200 & 220 EUR
- Size: Various
- Technique: Frequency Modulated Offset Lithograph
- Why is it still available from the publisher?: These weirdos failed to advertise the fact that the prints are all editions of 500, and that Richter himself was intimately involved in the selection of images, oversaw production, and gave final approval. Sounds like an "edition" to me! (I got confirmation from the publish of these facts)
- Why do I think these are a good buy?: Everyone should come to this conclusion themselves, but I feel that these are undervalued. The vast majority of Richter's "P" editions are similarly unsigned editions of 500 and sell for thousands (obviously the production quality is much better). Thus, it stands to reason that the value of an unsigned edition of 500, even though not printed on aluminum, would be much greater that 200EUR. Either way, they are perfect for a casual fan like me that wants a Richter, but not bad enough to drop massive cash.
Pictures of mine
Pros: Quality is impeccable. Great texture, and the image seems to jump right off the page.
Cons: Paper stock could be better, small text on the bottom edge (could easily be framed out though)
multiple image upload
- 1. Go to the publisher's website: www.buchhandlung-walther-koenig.de/koenig2/index.php?mode=start
- 2. Search "Gerhard Richter Poster"
- 3. The limited edition ones will be classified as "Poster Series 1"
- 4. Alternatively, some of them are available on corporate art sites like art.com and allposters.com, just make sure they are in fact the same before buying from one of these sites.
- 5. Enjoy!
Special Thank You
- I want to thank those who reached out to offer one of the bristol posters. I was really touched. Although I turned y'all down, I will be a bit selfish and take this moment to reiterate a request that I've been putting out for a while: can someone please help me out with the banksy hotel box set?
Now that prices are dropping this may not be such an insane request, and I'd obviously pay in full, plus some extra to contribute towards your travel expenses. Will also return the favor for an LA release. If your feeling generous please help a brother out!!
No onto the debate!!! Are these a good buy? Should they be considered editions? Are they just glorified posters? I'd love to hear from trolls and fans alike!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Jan 12, 2018 22:42:04 GMT 1, what makes these posters for this publisher more desirable then any other reproduction available out there? Edition of 500 (same as most of his true editions)
Intimate involvement of Richter in the publication process
Quality is that of a proper edition, extremely detailed and textured
To me that makes these an almost-sorta-kinda edition. Probably smack dab between a poster and a multiple. To me, an almost-sorta-kinda richter edition for 200EUR is a steal, but thats just my opinion
Only thing better would be if they were numbered, but beggers cant be choosers
mrbagel I'll fill you in on the mao. If anyone else is interested in a limited Richter Mao let me know (keeping this one for members who I know personally, and apparently mrbagel because this kid is extremely tenacious)

I inquired about a signed richter book from this publisher a week ago but haven't heard back via email.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by bjoern on Jan 19, 2018 11:35:00 GMT 1, The way these Richter posters are packaged certainly suggests they're quite special, and not just a usual show poster!! I still can't find reference to them on his official website though. Nice one.
Where is it available?

There's 10 "posters" in the series, but only about 6 of them still available... Apparently unnumbered editions of 500, made in 2005, but no mention of that on the website selling them. All โฌ200 or โฌ220, depending on size.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Express Post on Oct 12, 2018 14:22:26 GMT 1, What if it was accepted into the Catalogue Raisonne? Like the unsigned Heni Richters, recognised on his own website as works by the artist and not just any reproductions.
I would never pay 1.5K for an unsigned Lucien Freud print. I can't see the point.

Like the unsigned Heni Richters, recognised on his own website as works by the artist and not just any reproductions. I would never pay 1.5K for an unsigned Lucien Freud print. I can't see the point. With the Gerhard Richter prints, there would have been express authorisation, possible oversight during production, and final sign-off by him.
It was a living artist saying, "I am happy with the very idea of releasing multiples of these specific works. In each case, I also approve the choice of medium, format, dimensions, and edition size. And of course the quality of the achieved outcome."
That situation isn't really comparable with the Lucian Freud print, where Freud himself had zero input โ whether in the original (potentially controversial) decision to create reproductions of one of his paintings, or in any of the subsequent decisions taken in connection with this posthumous release.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Oct 23, 2018 18:08:24 GMT 1, Awesome Keith haring find!! I've got a little drop as well. John Baldessari "picture in a frame" available as a signed edition and unsigned poster. This shop has a ton of awesome posters/editions from richter, beuys, Miro, Calder, and others. Here's the catch, you can't buy direct. You send an order and they send you an invoice. I ordered mine a week ago and still have not received the invoice so you gotta be patient with these. Happy hunting!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Happy Shopper on Jan 4, 2019 10:52:57 GMT 1, Unsigned edition aside from the cataloged edition of 32 which is signed/numbered. Likely an edition of 500, like the other Richter print from this publisher, but I have not confirmed that fact for this specific print.
Pretty sure these are all an open edition. Although who knows how many were actually printed!? Maybe just 500. This looks to be the best in the set though, and huge!
