Its not at all hard to imagine. Most folks went long before anything other than a tshirt or a postcard were available. Plenty others rebooked to visit long before any new gifts were put up for sale.
What isnt hard to imagine is that someone who regularly re-sells prints on here being motivated to visit by the possibility of buying a print.

As usual, a fair point, well made. I've made my despair at posts hyping the value of prints well known. My post last night was born out of fustration, and was not, I'm afraid, one upon which I took a great deal of care when writing.

Right after release people pay a premium to get what they want.
The value settles down over time, and is usually vastly less than the price immediately after release. That's why the flippers are so quick to sell. Of course, quality pieces may then rise again with time, as an artist's popularity rises, and so demand increases.
I would not take unverified sales prices right after a release as an indication of true value.

I would have thought that the opposite was true. Right after release people pay a premium to get what they want. The value settles down over time, and is usually vastly less than the price immediately after release. That's why the flippers are so quick to sell. Of course, quality pieces may then rise again with time, as an artist's popularity rises, and so demand increases. I would not take unverified sales prices right after a release as an indication of true value.
